I'm just on the verge of placing an order for an i3S but wonder whether it might be worth waiting to see what the ID.3 is like?

Will the ID.3 make the i3 look outdated? Not so much in terms of styling, I know the i3 is 'challenging' to look at but quite like it, but in terms of range and performance. I don't want to be buying an i3 outright just to find that the values have been decimated in a few years because the ID.3 is the mainstream choice. Of course if the ID.3 can help to build greater acceptance of EVs then it may push values of all used EVs up?

Depends on what your needs are in terms of range, and which ID3 you would go for.

Cars like the Mini E and Honda E may also make the i3 look extra expensive and hurt residuals?

Maybe consider going the Evezy route for a vanilla i3 first ?

Anyone buying a brand new car and hoping the value isn't "decimated" in three years is either:

1) kidding themselves

or

2) Lucky enough to be in a tiny minority and able to buy something really special, like a GT3 RS 4.0 that appreciates immediately

I bought my i3 second hand, and it's worth today, 3 years later, exactly what i paid for it.......

Mass produced car which doesn't depreciate in 3 years? Must have been cheap to start with.

I think the Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro already make the i3 look decidedly out of date in terms of range and power, and aren't far behind on raw performance either.

The problem with the Korean cars is that they're very bland looking. You can't argue with the space, performance or range. They're just not something I want to own. Even if I did want one I believe the lead times are very long?

The i3 isn't to many peoples taste but it appeals to my nerdy side! Perhaps that the lead times aren't anywhere near so long on the i3 should be telling me something. scratchchin

The Niro is certainly bland (which is rather the point of it), but I'm not sure you can really say the same about the Kona? OK it's not got the geeky weirdness of i3, but to my eye it's one of the better looking small crossovers on the market. I'd bet on the ID3 being far blander than the Kona.
