All electric Mini Cooper

32 kWh Batt
146-168 mi range ( They say they've done it on the WLTP and then adapted to NEDC? why? so assuming the 146 is the WLTP range).
181 hp, 199 lb-ft torque (135 kW and 270Nm in new money).
7.3 to 60
limited to 93 mph

They've managed to do the EV conversion without taking from the interior space by the sounds of it. Pack is along the floor. They're saying it will come with a lot of the goodies that are optional on the ICE versions to tempt people to buy.

Seems pretty good to me. 7.3 to 60 is a little tame perhaps? in the 6's might have been a little more fun, but they're quoting 3.6 to hit about 40 mph, so fairly nippy. Perhaps they don't have the traction as it is FWD.

Seems no too dissimilar to the Honda E. Same sorta size, same sorta battery pack etc.

So now just need to wait for them to do a Clubman version with a longer battery pack !

Saw this at FOS - very impressed. I think the starting price is £24,200 and they are now taking deposits

That is interesting. I thought it would be more.

This could takeaway from the Honda E no?

Very squarely in the Zoe and standard Leaf's range and price point. Not enough range for me personally, just hope they have a denser battery version in the works as I need something that can do at least 150 miles of motorway @ 70mph with a sensible safety margin, so advertised range needs to be 200 miles or greater. I do a few trips a month where I have to cover that distance but would have all day to recharge it.

I don't like the stuck on tablet behind the steering wheel, wish they had integrated that better.

Yes, whilst I think some put far too much into range (and some are simply treating it like a smart phone spec, more is better, always regardless of what it does to price, use, design etc, the same thoughts that have given us thinner and thinner phones and slimmer and slimmer bezels to the detriment of actually using the damn thing). I do think 200 mi is the magic number for the vast vast majority.

150-160 mi one way trips for me aren't as regular. It is of course do-able with a quick charge, but in my ICE car I am used to doing the trip in one sitting in 2, 2.5 hrs tops. I would think having to budget another 30 mins on the regular would become a bit tiresome.

For work, its 70 mi round trip for me, so this fits the bill nicely.

Worth pointing out the 24.4k price includes the government grant. Its nearly 28 otherwise.

Wheels aside, I really like that! This and the new Corsa is an exciting proposition. That 59 plate towards the end of the pictures isn't a real reg plate, have I totally missed an electric Mini already?

Not sure if this is the explanation but they did a trial Mini E some years ago (well before the i3 came out) where they let some guinea pig customers have them for a trial run for a year or something

Weirdly small battery for 2020! The new Zoe has 50kWh+! The Leaf is either 40 or 62!

Disappointed with the range, was expecting to at least match the egolf. When the Kona/Niro waiting lists subside and the I.D. range comes out this will seem very limited I feel. If just for cities Zoe or i3 already seem better.

I thought the range was odd on this and not sure why they haven't used the i3 battery tech which is nigh on 200 for the 120.

Really cannot understand why manufacturers are pushing EV's with such appalling range. They are no more than city cars or short commute cars. Add in the price premium and battery leasing for an EV and an ICE is far more economical to run.

I've seen the test mule a few times in my quiet Oxfordshire village.
The interior looked identicle as did the rest of it, but with no noise.

Seems odd not to utlize other technology available in the group.
Maybe there isn't sufficient room in the Mini to accomidate more.

Exactly the same as the i3 we've had for 3 months and can honestly say I've never noticed despite regular motorway use.

Another non-issue for 99.9% of users, much like it only having 150 miles of range.

You seem chronically misinformed.

As above, 150 miles is all 99.9% of users need to get through a week on a single charge. And of course they are city/short commute cars as that's the biggest market.

There is no battery leasing cost on the majority of EV's (only Nissan/Renault I believe).

Spec for spec the Mini E is £500 cheaper than the Mini Cooper S and will cost significantly less to run.

The range is likely optimistic. It's going to be very inefficient at motorway speed.

If you spend enough time on a motorway for that to be an issue, then you’re probably looking at the wrong car.

With the average speed of traffic in the UK at best 1/3 of that, I’d say there’s plenty of headroom...
