I was just reading an article suggesting that the VW ID3's 125kW DC charge rate is too slow and yet here is the new Zoe launching at 50kW.

Read the comments on that article, I agree with their general opinion. If VW launched the ID3 with 50kW, then that would be disappointing for a totally new vehicle. At least the Zoe has DC charging now, it would have been good if they could have gone over 50, however it is supposed to be more affordable so I don't think we can complain too much.

It looks good. "Just" another update really but 200+ mile range, bit more power and that newer interior are welcome. CCS is very welcome but with that sort of range I wouldn't see rapid charging as something I'd need to do more than once or twice a year.

Embargo lifted at lunchtime so lots of videos dropped from the press event the other week with lots of detail.

We need a new car next year, this is a front runner depending on pricing - list price is largely irrelevant as the current Zoe (and all Renaults) get discounted heavily anyway.

Yep, it also has a place on my list of potentials to replace my i3 in Sep 2020

I'm hoping to be spoilt for choice!

Depends how much it costs. The Zoe has always been on the cheaper end and people who don't regularly do >250 miles a day (>3 hours driving) will put up with only 50kW charging if it costs a lot less.

Of course people stuck behind them at chargers won't be too happy.

In reality 50kw for a city car is fine IMO, media like to make out a big story on charge speeds etc.

Shame this will be silly price here, the Zoe is what £21k in UK, or $40,000nzd or so, retails starting $68,000 here, or only $6k less than a Tesla model 3.

Hmm no utility power socket?

The on board charger electronics could work in reverse to power a 13A socket, allow you to plug in a kettle when picnicking, mains Hoover etc.

Allow you to charge a friend's car like phones can now transfer power to another, rescue a fellow EV driver.

Looks good. I was one of the original Zoe PCP kumquat fisters when they came up on here for £150/month with the same as deposit. The 80nile range on that was perfectly adequate as a daily commuter so over 200 makes range anxiety for the majority non existent.

The only thing that let it down for me was the decidedly ropey handling, it looked fun and chuckable, but wasn't.

Got to applaud Renault for making these really, they look smart.

Comparable battery and range to a Model 3 SR, almost the same as an SR+ and about half the price. Whats not to like.

It will make the i3 120s 42kwh start to look a little shy in the market.

I suspect a real world, usable 200 miles/300 km will be a mental threshold that buyers will feel happy with, with little need to go beyond it for the smaller cars. I live with that on my MS (and I know I have superchargers but there are still places like Wales that are a charging dead areas which I can just about cope with)

As is that big central touchscreen.

However we don't know yet what Renault will offer in the UK. Certain parts of Europe have got much more basic models of Zoe in the past, while the cheapest UK Zoe has always been pretty well specced - I suspect this will continue.

I presume you’re not talking battery

I bet it’s larger than you think as a car and either way it’s a car plenty will be happy with - and HALF the price - what are Tesla spending the extra money on? A bit of metalwork to make the car a bit bigger?

Certainly for us the physical size of the is important, even the model 3 is just a bit big.

Even though the SUV market is huge (model Y) there are still many who need a smaller vehicle for ease of finding a space near their work for example, but need a decent range for the occasional longer journey
