Couldn't see any other threads on this although it seems like big news.

Toyota and Subaru announced they are entering the EV market together with new platforms, Toyota doing all the electric parts and Subaru the 4 wheel drive system obviously. They are just doing SUVs to start with from the sounds of it, so no electric GT86/BRZ.

Quite a few places picking up on the news, although there isn't much information beyond the above.

If there’d been a Subaru ev available now I would potentially have got one instead of the iPace. Have had three Subaru’s and would quite like another

Thanks, some interesting news. I could go for a CUV/SUV, the main thing is to make it affordable. There are plenty of over-priced, inefficient lumbering EVs already.

The EV mechanism to implement AWD is completely different to where Subaru have their expertise with viscous coupling diffs etc. EVs just have a motor at the front and another at the back. I would expect that the transmissions losses of just the one motor with 3 diffs would make that setup nonviable, as well as running a transmission tunnel where you would want to put your batteries.

Great news IMHO. Highly likely we'll see an EV Subaru Outback and Crosstrek (XV in the UK) given how "green" their market is. I'd also expect some serious range as they are sold as roadtrip cars. And those are some great cars!
