Hi all, we are seriously considering an EV as our next family run around as the technology has caught up enough for it to cover 95% of our journey's without any range anxiety.

I'm just trying to work out costs and lay the groundwork so to speak so can anyone recommend any good approved charge point installers that cover the North London\Herts area?

Also how much does an average install usually cost and is everyone still eligible for the £500 government charge point installation grant?

Thanks in advance

It’s usually about £3-400 for a charger and installation (after grant deduction) as long as there’s space on your circuit board and enough power (I.e. your house has a 100A main fuse). I think I saw one supplier offering £199 for a basic type 2 socket when I was looking recently.

It’s highly likely you’re eligible for the grant unless you’ve already had it. However, you do need a confirmed order or to own the car before you can get the grant. Most cars come with a basic 13A charge to run off a normal socket, so it’s not like you can’t charge the car before then, it’s just that the charging rate is a bit slow.

The speakev forum is very good for details on this, and you’ll find plenty of references for installers on there.

Renault will include a charger with a zoe...

normally from £200 after grant deducted for a straight forward install, but of course distance and route from consumer unit to charge point will add to the cost if complex
