Volvo Cars has signed a multibillion-dollar deal to buy electric car batteries from two leading Asian manufacturers to supply the company until 2028.

The deal with Chinese battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) and South Korean chemical group LG Chem is the latest by a carmaker to secure battery supplies into the future.

...

We need two suppliers because these are huge volumes,” Mr Samuelsson told the Financial Times ahead of the conference, adding that the capacity of batteries ordered by Volvo was “more or less the same amount of batteries as the whole of the global supply last year”.

Seems like a sensible plan to me. Securing the supply chain whilst keeping suppliers and supply costs competitive

Good to see businesses securing Battery supply. But I find it hard to believe they'll be any better off than other manufacturers struggling to meet their battery demand like VW, Hyundai, Kia etc etc

Perhaps in another 10 years we may have the battery texh to go into these cars that has the power density and lifespan to be worthwhile

What lifespan issues do modern EVs batteries have?

It's a myth that just won't go away. Batteries seem to be a lot more reliable than engines so far.

Oh I know that. Yet to see a ICE with an 8 year, 100,000 mile warranty!

But I do like to question people when they perpetuate such falsehoods.
