Talk to me about the hybrid auris please, im not worried about electric range, i am worried about how long the battery lasts and what it costs to replace.
What speed can i drive up to on pure electric and how far?

Id have about 6k so i dont think i can get one just yet, would an older hybrid be a liability?

cheers

I understand it is the same hybrid system as the Prius. As the battery is charged from regen it will not have a long range on pure electric.
The Prius I used for a while just used electric for slowly rolling with stop start traffic but as soon as any speed was demanded it reverted to petrol.

Mrs Starfighter has a 65 plate Auris. EV only range is claimed at 30 miles but it is hard to keep in pure EV mode. It will kick in the IC engine based on throttle and is quite sensitive to pulling away from lights with the rest of traffic. It will sit happilybin town traffic doing stop start driving on battery only.
Toyota do Hybid Health Checks as part of servicing and this gives an indication of battery condition. Thee have been a handful of failures over the life of the Toyota system. I know a guy in the US running a Very early Prius without any issues and he lives in Chicago where the weather is not helpful for at least 3 months a years due to cold.

At that price band, you will get a generation 2 Prius drivetrain, produced from about 2005 to 2009.
I have a 57 plate that I used for Private Hire, taking it from 58k to 139k. I'm retired now, but still use it.
Many of my colleagues used them, and many have done in excess of 300k with no trouble. Servicing every 10k keeps them going. Water pumps last 90k, shocks 150k.
Brakes do need looking after. Because most of the braking is via the electric motor, the hydraulic system only takes effect at below about 20mph. Hence front pads can last 100k, and discs 150k. Rear pads 100k, and I haven't changed the rear discs yet. Jet washing isn't kind to the brakes either, so a strip down and copper grease up is vital annually to keep them free.
Haven't heard of total traction battery failure. Individual cells can give trouble but is very rare. There's a good specialist in Northampton. Google it. A full battery rebuild is about £700.
The small 12 volt battery for the start up computers causes all sorts of gremlins when failing, so changing that every 3 years is advisable.
That's about it.

Sounds wrong to me. EV range on my wife's 2014 Yaris is about 1 mile.

It's only plugin hybrids that have longer EV range.

You can drive at up to 49mph on battery alone.
Pure battery distance depends on gradient but somewhere between 1 and 2 miles is achievable.
Reliability is excellent and the battery is reportedly able to outlast the rest of the car. The battery is managed so that it is kept within 40-60% real charge deliberately for a long service life. It's why it's the platform of choice for many taxi drivers these days.

Yep. The Auris hybrid's EV range is supposed to be 1.2 miles at speeds up to 30 mph. However, in my experience, it's very dependent on the driving conditions and driving style.
