Shedder in a Tesla Model S
Discussion
I'm a proud Shedder and currently trundle around in a very old diesel shed. Despite driving for over thirty years, I've also never owned a really fast car, one or two luke warm ones but nothing really fast.
This lunchtime an old friend picked me up and we went and had lunch. Obviously his car was the subject of some conversation, in particular me noting how renowned they are for their acceleration....
On the way home, he did a standing start full bore launch.
Nothing could have prepared me for that, totally utterly and mindbogglingly fast. To me it felt like we were making the jump to hyperspace.
I'm sure this is routine stuff for many on here but for a humble shed driving pleb like myself, my mind was blown, literally, thought I was going to have an aneurysm and st myself at the same time.

Yeah they are crazy.
The first time I drove a model S it took a while for me to get my head around the acceleration and that you have stamp on the accelerator really fast. if you just ease on the acceleration you'll be doing well above the speed limit before the pedal has hit the floor. Crazy.

Recently had the same in a mates model S with ludicrous mode. I just was not prepared for that first full on punch as you are snapped back and lose focus as your eyeballs deform. Utterly bonkers and very impressive.
Saying that, it did feel like a bit of a one trick pony and the internal finish didn't seem to be of a very high standard.

Glad I'm not alone and thanks for the replies.
The eyeballs and focusing anecdote was spot on. If there is ever a next time i'll be pinning myself back into the seat as best as possible before the off.
I've been telling my Wife, Kids and everyone I've come into contact with all about it with the glee of my inner 12 year old!
As for the fit and finish and one trick pony'ness, I cannot agree, it seemed nice and swish but there again my daily is an almost twenty year old four pot TDI so most things are better.
I'm sure there are a fair few on here who are routinely around very fast exotic machinery so it wouldn't be much of a shock but again, for a shed driving pleb for me, it was mindbogglingly fast.

I too am a serial shedder and, like you, haven't owned a properly fast car (maybe I never will now). So to read your experience really made me smile and I would love to experience it. no doubt it's even more extreme for the passenger, as the driver knows when it's going to happen and also has a steering wheel to grab a hold of.
The only thing I can think which vaguely matches your description, is when you're buckled into a seriously quick roller coaster and you don't know when it's going to begin. then suddenly.. BAM! your head and internal organs are pushed so far back that you can barely breathe.
Am I even close?

They are about to redo the interior, they have the guy who did Volvos new one doing it.
There’s an awful lot to like about the interior of a modern Volvo Edited by jjwilde on Wednesday 10th April 13:41

So why are they all bumbling about at slow speeds in the middle lane of the motorway? I’ve never, ever, seen a Tesla being used “properly”. The only time I’ve been impressed with EV performance was a BMW 330E pulling away from the lights which was pretty impressive. Saying that, it did feel like a bit of a one trick pony and the internal finish didn't seem to be of a very high standard.
If I had an S, I’d be aiming to drain it on my 128 mile round trip commute and driving appropriately.
As someone who used to drive an RS6 (5.2 V10 twin turbo..) I will say EVs with even a sprinkle of power are impressive. The iPace we have is laugh out loud fast. The actual "hit" only lasts a few seconds, where as ICE is almost inversely proportional to the EV the laughs starts when the EV is running out of puff.
Personally given how early we are into EV development I think we will see limits placed on acceleration - as soon as some namby minister for the prevention of fun gets a go in one they will say oh no we cant have this!

If you are used to shedding speeds then you would probably, like me, almost st yourself.

From an RS6 owner that is a good testimonial.Personally given how early we are into EV development I think we will see limits placed on acceleration - as soon as some namby minister for the prevention of fun gets a go in one they will say oh no we cant have this!
As for the ministry of nannying miserableness, I think you are right, that much fun simply cannot be allowed.
For anyone who has the opportunity to ride in or drive one when 'launched', do it, do it before the aforementioned happens and some "software" update tones the bonkers down to boring.
Hoping to be in possession of an i-Pace myself shortly but this is what has really impressed me even with the little i3 we have at the minute. The performance is genuinely real world usable and the responsiveness is far beyond any ICE car I've ever driven.
Any gap in traffic or overtaking opportunity and you're off the second you hit the pedal. No messing with gears or winding the engine up into the powerband, just instant go. It's very addictive.

I wonder if they are just significantly less impressive once you've pulled away from the lights. I've never driven one.If I had an S, I’d be aiming to drain it on my 128 mile round trip commute and driving appropriately.
If the OP likes shedding and Teslas the Rich Rebuilds youtube channel might be of interest.
