I am considering buying an early Zoe . Its just for local trips to the shops etc . I work from home and don't think I will cover more than 3k miles per year so will be paying the lowest battery rental of £49..So my question is to other owners is , is it any good ? Range is limited but I like the idea of an EV and this seems to be a good way in .Also anyone have any idea how much it costs to charge a car overnight back up to full charge . Any comments welcome .

Are you happy enough with 19.6p per mile battery rental?

I wouldn’t be

A full charge is about £2.50 or less on domestic electricity rates

How about a non lease battery equipped leaf?

Early Leafs are flooding into NZ at the present time.

Virtually all of them are ex Japan, with prices starting from £4500.

If you can live within the range and charging time (range depending on number of bars left on the battery indicator), they offer very cheap motoring.

Fuel in NZ is a bit cheaper than the UK, I still recon I save 10p a kilometre on running costs - with next to zero servicing costs.

In a twenty minute drive round Christchurch I can see half a dozen Leafs plus a couple of eNV200s.

One Leaf I have (140,000k) needs two tyres as the sidewalls are perishing. Not touched the other 2 or the eNV in nearly two years.

Totally out of the loop in terms of the outlay and running costs of these vehicles, however its clearly coming to a point where we will be using EV transport a lot more and I am not against it.

I love my car, and at 18yo am getting good value out of its build cost, but commuting under the Mersey and down the dock road in a 3l 1.5ton beamer also does feel somewhat wrong as you sit in a tunnel full over everyones fumes.

Def try to find an old Leaf as the battery will be owned. Even the 2011 models are still good for 60 miles, perfect town car.

Battery lease is just too expensive on Zoe. You can buy the lease out but it's crazy expensive.
