What sort of £ or % drop does this represent?

Not sure, but when I looked 18 months ago the ludicrous S was best part of £100k

Not as much as that. £10-15k perhaps. As mentioned above, the P100D was about a ton when I looked 18mths ago.

P100D was £131k. A not insignificant drop of £48k.

Mmmmmm. Must have gone up a lot in the last 18months. No way I would have considered it at £130k.

Interesting way to test the loyalty of recent new owners... Mind you what can they do when the value of their nearly new car has been slashed overnight...

Does the price drop matter. I'd argue few Teslas are bought cash and most are lease/pcp/pch. Are the lease prices still the same?

Could well see a glut of forced terminations on finance agreements.

Pity those foolish sods that actually buy their cars and take all the risk winklaugh

An overnight drop of £40k is crazy. I can't see how even die hard customers of Tesla would be happy about that. There's early adopters tax and then there's 1/3rd of the price.

My FiL was looking to change his one & is very unhappy at this price drop as he paid nearly 125k for his & this has gutted his trade in value.

He's rang me today saying get a deal done on something else he'll take the hit & won't buy another EV (not just because of the price drop more to do with his general disappointment with the whole product) again.

The way around that problem is to swap it for another new Model S isn't it? Yes his trade-in may have lost £40k in value but the new car is £40k cheaper. Cost to change is the same.

Electrification is happening. It will be petrol and diesel S Classes and 7 series' that will be getting hammered on resale when the majors catch up with Tesla.

If you buy an ev, especially Tesla you should understand next week's car will be better and cheaper.

But 40k is a lot in one drop!

He's had enough he came from an S Class to this & hasn't been impressed also only averaging 240 miles hasn't impressed him either (he does lots of long journeys) along with niggly issues as well as below par fit & finish the lightly used S500 coupe hasn't shed the money his Tesla has & is a different level interior wise.

He's lost over 40k as the price difference new to new is 40k & then you have to take into account his car has now got miles on it & it's not new so the loss is a very significant number, one that would have me weeping in a corner but luckily it's not me.

Did he pay cash for it? In which case he is in the minority that will lose hugely.

When the BMW 6 & 7 suddenly got £20 discounts 4 years ago, it made minimal difference as most were on finance, PCP and lease figures barely shifted.
