Its based upon the Audi Long wheel base Q5 sold in China... Great Audi Build quality, only draw back the engine has just been swapped for the electric stuff, rather than a car designed from scratch to be an EV.

I had a good look at one at Oldham Audi last week. Looks very good indeed...

I think it uses a platform designed purely for an EV. It has nothing to do with the Q5.

The salesman at Audi told us about the Q5 connection....., just passing on that info, certainly the window shape seemed the same as a new Q5

Pretty sure this is MLBEvo Platform? The same that they use for their big SUVs, albeit with some modifications. The later ICE platforms were designed with some electrification in mind, but obviously are still compromises as they also need to work with pure ICE power trains. The MQB that underpins the golf had enough built into it to make the eGolf a viable proposition.

It’s definitely not MEB based, those cars won’t be with us till 2020-2021

Incorrect. It's based upon a modified version of the MLB Evo platform, which itself is used for the Q5.

Got to love a sword in the back of a car - to calibrate boot length!

Ha, yeah. Got to make sure my Historic European Martial Arts kit will fit. The longsword also fits into the Jaguar I-Pace, by the way.

In fairness, it is blunt for full-contact sparring, but you wouldn't want to get hit without being in full kit! Or have it flying loose in the car in a collision!

EV car sales rise on back of hitherto unrealised medieval load carrying capabilities...😁

Pretty underwhelming effort considering all the hype. Okay it's not bad and it is at least an EV, but apart from more consistent panel gaps for the micrometer merchants, Tesla have it beaten on everything else with a car that's been on the market for 3 years. Maybe the next gen version built on a proper dedicated EV platform might be worth looking at?

its a quiet comfortable cruising SUV with a bit of off road capability, well built like you would expect from Audi.

Its probably a great all round car, as an EV so long as you dont go outside its range (most drives) it'll be decent too.

Audi have been very conservative with its design and operation though, it drives much like an ICE car and its not very efficient, and only allows use of a limited amount of that battery (82 out of 95..), I guess they are somewhat new to large battery packs so are conservative (and likely know the cell chemistry better than others..)

Stats wise it doesnt measure up to the X but it will attract the usual audi buyer who might not want to risk a new brand.

I just think its crazy the amount of money etc they have put into this a a one off before the PPE/MEB platforms come on stream, its not even been quick to market.

I guess one thing e-Tron has got going for it is that Tesla Model <anything> just are not lookers? Oh and they have no dealerships now. Audi/VAG are probably going to be around for a very long time. People drive past Audi dealerships on their way home. And if you subscribe to the Tesla-as-Nokia comparison, nagging doubts on how many years the Tesla brand has got.

So perhaps e-Tron appeals to a different type of buyer.

Looks are a matter of opinion, and Tesla have done a U turn on a lot of the store closures. I still think the E-Tron is good, but it's too expensive, and has poor range considering the size of the battery.

I've ended up putting a deposit on a Polestar 2.

I had one on priority order from last year but given its range compared with other recent EV's, I have just cancelled. I may regret it when I see them on the road but my hunch is that within 18 months there will be a MK II with rather better range which will make the value of the first gen cars plummet. No remorse (yet!)

It’s pretty much all MLB underpinnings
