Since VAG are (I think) the only company currently using 800 volt drive systems, I think we're some way off them being generically supported by the charging points.
Given the current public charging stations cannot even deliver 50KW in a reliable manner widely available 350KW public is a long way off. Even Tesla chargers slow down to 50KW when having to charge multiple cars at the same time. I cannot see 350Kw chargers been cheap when they do arrive, its fine if your use to paying £80 to fuel up, but some of us are now use to paying £5 or nothing at all.Anyone whos been in a Tesla charging at just 100KW+ will tell you how much cooling is needed to stop the battery from going up in flames - been a passenger in a 787 is quiter experience I think. The amount of engineering needed for reliable and safe 350KW delivery into a battery pack is no small task. There is also no information on degradation, not much use if you can charge ar 350KW but end up with a dead pack at 5 years.
This Audi GT does look good though, much better effort than the one that is going on sale next year. Equally I cannot wait to see the EV version of the XF. Hondas' small urban EV is also coming. All great news to see more mainstream EVs coming....Exciting times ahead .
