UK Tesla Model 3 will come with CCS connector

Looks like CCS is winning the fight for dominance in the EV market. Makes sense for Tesla to do this given the spread of this connection in Europe. I wonder if their superchargers will be upgraded to offer CCS paid access to other EV makes and models.
Could be a nice earner for Tesla if they do choose to go down that route.

Wonder what we'll get down here.
Don't you just get second hand cars from Japan? CHAdeMO for you then.- edit -
Theres only 5-6 actual supercharger sites though they are well positioned.
Audi and an electricity company have just announced they will put in a network of 150kw CCS but given there is only 100 etrons coming into nz next year max, and the taycan not until 2021 this wont be rushed...

Just a shame about that awful boot opening. C'mon Tesla, make a hatchback version for the European market, you know it makes sense.
+1 I'm very tempted with a model 3, but the only doubt/issue is the boot.. Before I could buy one we'll be seeing the model Y which will probably be more appropriate, just dont know when it would turn up, 2021/22?

I read somewhere that they considered originally make the model 3 as a hatchback but decided against it as they preferred to instead maximise the headroom for rear passengers. Not sure if this is 100% true, but it isn't a trade off I would have made.Smiljan said:

Interesting development. Musk seems inclined to prefer his own propriety tech whenever possible, so the fact he is conceding this point suggests he thinks CCS is going to win long term. IMO that puts a big dent in the long term viability of their supercharging network. Looks like CCS is winning the fight for dominance in the EV market. It doesn't have to be a compromise. It could have been a Focus type of hatchback, rather than the Model S type of hatchback. It would have been a lot more practical!EddieSteadyGo said:

Afik German law is mandating ccs. Tesla are going to retrofit ccs to all the superchargers in Europe. RJG46 said:
Did Tesla do any market research in the UK?
I'd say hatches and estates vastly outnumber the amount of saloons on UK roads. And they are losing ground to SUVs, also a hatch.
Or indeed anywhere that isn't North America. I think they've really missed a trick here and will limit their market. I'd snap one up if it were actually usable, but there's no way I could live with that crummy boot.I'd say hatches and estates vastly outnumber the amount of saloons on UK roads. CCS is the EU standard effectively. It's not mandated but the EU has said that if any public money is spent on a charger then it needs to be CCS compatible. A lot of chargers in Europe (including the UK) are combo chargers so support CCS, Chademo and Type 2. CCS will of course win out thanks to the EU mandate. Witchfinder said:

I suspect I'll swap my 3 order to a Y as soon as they are announced. I want our main car to be an all rounder and that means hatch is highnon the list of priorities.
