Its a company car, I've a v60 twin enigne(hybrid) at the minute.

Possibly able to change, what makes sense?

I want, good seats, nice stereo, 40mpg if running on engine alone(motorway MPG).

Merc e350e?

Merc 350e won't 40mpg on ICE alone. I tested one and got low 30's on a 70mile mainly motorway run.

I don't think any of the current Hybrid's will do 40mpg on ICE alone at motorway speeds.

Unless you really need the combustion engine and the range, go and look at the Jaguar I-Pace.

Have to disagree with that. Seen late 40s/early 50s on our C350e on long motorway trips with no destination charging. That was running at national limit, not stuck in roadworks wink

Only ever saw 30s when I was running it in and did lots of driving in Sport mode to force the ICE to run all the time.

That said, I will certainly acknowledge that if you just want a motorway mile muncher, you probably still want diesel, or a pure EV with a good range.

I was mainly driving at 80(ish) and using all the performance when accelerating.

Quite similar to my 530e when only on ICE the economy is quite sensitive to how it's being driven, much more sensitive than diesels. I can just about get 40mpg but need to stick to 60-70mph.

The smaller engine Toyota hybrids will easily do 50+mpg on ICE at 70mph. Even the larger Auris Touring.

I have a weekly 320 mile round trip. I'd want it to be a 'tax efficient' way of traveling. Possibly might take up a company fuel card so the MPG isn't quite as important.

But the C02 is 99 g/km compared to the Merc and BMW which are 49 g/km making them much cheaper as company cars.

Is a plugin out of the question? That would reduce your co2 right down.

No its not. I'm just not sure we're currently setup for it yet, won't rule it out, also could wait 6 months to see where we're at.

I'll be 100% honest, its not just the green credentials, its the lower tax I need.

I'd want something a little more plush than a prius.

If a PHEV is possible, then you could do worse than look at the current Volvo lineup. The XC90 PHEV is rather plush, but they do the XC60, V90 and S90 in PHEV form too.

xc90/60 is too expensive, Limit is around £600 a month excluding vat(15k miles).

s90 might be a good call though.

Ah, yes, that’ll do it for sure smile They are indeed exrememly sensistive to how they are driven though, and how long the trips are in relation to battery capacity. Ours suits us well, but wont suit everyone for sure.

The complete irony is that given how expensive the tax contributions are(even on the v90phev), the Mercedes x-class makes more sense.

Crazy really. I'm up and down the country a lot at the moment (as I was today, >450 miles) and managed 40.7mpg in my 10 year old Mk4 petrol Mondeo 2.0.

That's cruise at an indicated 73 (GPS 70), a bit of roadworks/queueing and the Dartford crossing which was stop/start a lot. And I know from brim to brim measuring that's pretty dead on accurate, not just taking the trip computer's word for it. I'll get a more accurate reading when I brim it over the weekend.

Why haven't ICE cars moved the game on in 10 years? The Mondeo is 1479kg too so not light, and only 5 gears so 5th is 3200rpm at 70.

All the research went into diesels and small turbo petrols like the Ford 1litre Ecoboost in order to reduce co2. My 2014 Merc C220d reports 70mpg if I cruise just under 70mph.

The wife's Yaris hybrid reported 56mpg on a 200mile motorway run so hybrids can be economical.
