Soft-roader styling and a (theoretical) 292 mile range:

Think Hyundai might have this nailed!

Hyundai/Kia have a lot of things nailed, they're going to catch out those that are napping!

Two battery packs, only the higher priced gets that range.

Anyway, the Kona ICE has had some dire reviews so they’ll need to do something special with the EV version.

With that range and price combination they are going to stir things up - subject to availability of course. Not going to get one myself instead of an iPace though... perhaps for my wife?

If Hyundai still have a battery supply problem their waiting time will be longer that the Tesla Model 3.

Official kona ev UK prices..
£30k for 39kwh
£36k for 64kwh

Both before the plug in car grant making them £5k cheaper retail.

£31,000 for a 64kwh car is quite cheap..

I drove a 1.6 kona hire car the other week. I was impressed. It went well to be fair. Looks similar to a Citroen from the front tho.

It was on my list but it's 2wd only and the battery pack is quite low under the vehicle, looks very exposed.

So I'll pass, it's not a small suv/cuv it's a normal car just with the looks

This will be a really interesting addition to the EV options. If they come out with a competitive finance package, it'll likely cost what I'm currently paying in diesel alone, and the 300 mile range is totally viable, even for my longest trips.

One thing I can't find is any info on whether it can be charged from 100kw stations. The blurb mentions 50kw, but I believe there's a rollout of fast chargers in the next year or so, and it would be good to get an idea of charge time on those for the Kona

I don’t think I’ve seen a Kona, is it ‘crossover’ size? Arona/T-Roc? Or the next segment up? Ateca/Tiguan

It's classed as a 'Small SUV'. Whatcar have the 'alternatives' including the Jag E-Pace, VW T-Roc and Seat Arona

Certainly won't be a big car, but as a DD, it would suit me fine. I can envisage running something like that day to day and having something interesting and impractical for weekends

Small crossover size, very similar to the Arona, bit shorter and narrower than a T-Roc.

Ahh that's annoying.

Still amazed nobody's made a XC60/Tiguan sized BEV yet, without spending i-Pace/Model X money

It's their standard 'buy online' site as far as I can see.

Saying 24 weeks when I go through the system, but I've not said 'yes' yet.

Working out at £463 on a 5 year PCP deal at 23k miles. Very nearly a break-even on my current costs taking into account diesel costs.

Think I'll wait a little longer and see what happens

Just had a dabble on their site out of interest only, looks like there's only the small battery version that you can order and actually get delivered this year.

It'll be interesting to see how this car is received and how the range is affected in the depths of winter but from the youtube videos I've seen it looks half decent. Still pricey though considering the ICE version of the Kona starts at £16k new.

Edit to add, I believe the prices shown also already include the £4.5k EV grant.

Found out the other day that these don't have connected services, at least in the UK at present. No preconditioning etc - deal breaker for me.

You can do it on a schedule in the car. The VW Car-Net app loses connectivity so often I've got used to doing it that way, it's fine.
