I was wondering whether any of you have had any experience of the 2007 - 2012 civic hybrid?

They seem like remarkable good value, however they seem to have poor hybrid battery life.

I cant find anywhere online that seems to quote a price for replacement batteries and I have almost no idea how much this costs.

Ive also heard that Honda did a recall that limited the output from the electric motor which lengthened the battery life, is this something Honda would update for free on a used car?

The 'Honest John' website had a good review with plenty of detail although at the time of writing the page is presently down.
It suggested the latest versions were the best in terms of usability etc, and that in US federal government testing it actually outperformed the Toyota Prius.
The Honda system is not like Toyota's, it's simpler and has no pure-EV mode, the battery pack is quoted at 8-10 years or 100k miles.
This combined with the fact that the car is in fact a stretched Jazz rather than a Civic contributes to the value.
A quick google search on Honda hybrid batteries said £2-3k, but you can query a stealer direct such as;
https://www.coxmotorparts.co.uk/honda/honda-civic-...

In contrast Toyota main dealers currently charge £800-1,000 dependent on the hybrid drive unit.

Slightly off topic.

When I as looking for a new car in 2014 a number of cars were on my list. One was the Honda Insight Hybrid which failed one main consideration - it couldn't really cope with 4 adult male occupants, as i car share.

I thought nothing more of that model until a few months later I read about an owner whose battery had seriously degraded over 18 months. Then I discovered that Honda had discontinued the model shortly after I bought my Toyota Auris estate hybrid. In fact checking the Honda website they don't appear to have any hybrid models now. Interesting that so many manufacturers are jumping on the hybrid, plug-in hybrid, pure electric bandwagon. They seem to be following the hydrogen fuel cell for their electric cars.
