It took a while but my new e-golf has finally arrived. Initial impressions are good - it did the 100 mile journey home from the dealer in bad (and cold) weather last week with about 25 miles left in the "tank". It is quite quick too and round town in B mode, with maximum regenerative breaking makes it feel rather go-cart like. Infotainment / sat nav are good. Only frustration so far is not being able to fix a bike rack to the rear due to the lack of tow bar fixings. The silence when turning the key gets a bit of getting used to though.

I took advantage of the VW scrappage scheme (£5,500 for an ancient volvo worth about a quarter of that) which with the Government grant means it was decent value I think.

Other than being very quiet, it is just like a golf, which is no bad thing.

Did you really say "The silence when turning the key gets a bit of getting used to though" ??

Just like a golf indeed.

Nice!..
Is there any particular reason you chose the Golf rather than a Leaf etc?

I drove both (actually the old model of the Golf) and preferred the Golf, Ive had a number of ICE VWs over the years although not for a while but really it was the scrappage deal that made the VW compelling value.

what is the range like when the car is travelling at speed (60+) does the range drop fairly rapidly?

Good choice!

I'd go for an e-golf if I was in the market for an EV.

It doesn't make a statement about being an electric car, it just gets on with it subtly, like a Golf should do.

We have just got one on loan for a while. First impressions good though the lack of noise takes a while to get used to. Probably charge it tonight as I want to see how far we can go between "fill-ups"
