Hi guys I have always liked electric cars and have wanted one for a while. I have moved to a small town now and get about by electric bike.

I have a large lwb camper van which we use as our only vehicle as we can walk to most places but do end up doing some small under 10 mile trips in it which isn;t great.

I might have a new job soon which is 20-30 miles away and would love to get a cheap electric car for that and to use for popping about locally.

A secondhand Twizy would be perfect (commuted into london on a motorbike for 8 years from the suburbs so it looks warm and cozy to me!) but I don;t think the range would be enough and I don;t think I would be able to charge at work unfortunately. Phev also sound good.

Main thing is cost, I want to spend as little as possible. Happy with secondhand.

I had a quick look and getting a cheap small ICE car and running that seems cheaper.

Is there any hope at the moment?

I just sold my Leaf 15 plate with 38k on it for £8k. Check speakev. What I would say is that you are buying a cheap without warranty, it can be expensive if things go wrong. Chap with a 2011 Leaf just got told he had a repair bill for £7.5k.

Yeah. I thought so. Way cheaper to buy a cheap second hand small engine ICE and run that.

Too much money for a commuting vehicle for me. A twizy at 5k was pushing it really. That with the prices pretty steady for resale later.

Shame as I really want one. Just have to wait a bit longer.

The cheapest lease deal is about £199/month if that might work for you.

Thanks for that. What car is that for? Do you happen to have a link.

Cheers

Renault Zoe, a leased battery one would set you back £5k. I paid a tad less than that for mine a few months ago. 2013, 2 former owners and only 25k on the clock with full history.

I pay £69 a month for the battery lease but charge for free thanks to a combination of conveniently located PodPoint chargers and a 3 pin charger which I use at work. Covered nearly 2000 miles in mine without paying to charge.

Perfect as a commuting tool but I keep having ideas of selling it and buying a quick car again!

Ouch. I can only imagine that's for a complete new battery pack? I thought you could replace just the defective cells?

There’s a Renault Fluence on autotrader for three grand, think the battery is probably leased and the Flience is an early EV so probably not up to Zoe/Leaf levels of performance/function.

It’s only 13 miles from me in Leeds so will take a while to get it driven and recharged down to London...budget for a transporter biggrin

Don't know if it's changed but Renault only show lease prices for up to 10500 miles a year for the 22kw Zoe now (60 miles a day commuting would be be 15k a year, then you've got any other trips on top). The ZE40 does get an unlimited option at £110/month.

Zoe route would be perfect for us as a second car but for higher mileages it probably makes more sense to spend a bit more on a battery-owned Leaf.

Peugeot iON / Mitsubishi i-Miev sometimes come up cheaper but they're rare and not sure if the range would be up to a 60 mile commute in all weathers.

Thanks guys, I would probably be doing 3/4 days a week as a teacher so probably would be under the 10k per annum.

My used leaf is PCP’d for £137 a month. No deposit.
There were cheaper cars available.

Ours is on HP at £138, I put 2k down and got £1k off if I took the 0% finance. Got a charger and servicing included too. Mk1 Leaf 24kwh, from Chorley Nissan.

It'll do about 50 miles in this weather. Heater is a big consumer of power as its an early one.

ive just bought my 2yo 24kw leaf tekna, 20k miles off nissan - £11k

My man maths says a 6yo car is worth £6k+ so depreciation will be approx £5k/48 = £105pm plus £20pm leccy. I was spending £140 on a shed previously so i dont think i can commute any cheaper/reliably (its still has 1 year nissan warranty). There are some expenisve parts on the leaf but if you read thru speakev forum very few people have any problems at all, there is also a 7? year warranty on the drivetrain/battery and a extended warranty is available

You say commute up to 30 miles - each way? When the weather is cold, wet and windy, 60 miles is my max. Usually 80 miles in the summer. Great car though, thoroughly recommend

Local nissan main dealer.
If you’re in the SW I can give you the number of the sales contact I used, but the deals appeared nationwide.

I also got a home charger and 3 years servicing (not that there’s much to service) chucked in.

The car is fine. Dull, but fine.
