Some anti EV folk like to claim all electric cars crawl along at 60mph in the inside lane of every motorway and this annoys me. Partly because it isn't true, and partly because is.

I see many more EVs keeping up with traffic just fine, though I must admit I've seen an increasing number of Nissan leafs hovering about 55mph, bothering HGVs and the like.

However, I've also seen an influx of high power/speed or high fuel consumption cars that would feel just cosy in a leaf sandwich. This last week I've seen x2 Mustang V8, several C63 AMGs, new 911s not to mention about 15 focus RSs and Audi s/rs.

I think evs make you more conscious of your power usage but I guess fuel costs might be biting some..?

It's kinda nice driving a powerful car slowly. Burbling along, tickling the throttle. Engine humming away. Relaxed.

For me that's true also sometimes, but not most.

E46 330ci owner here, cracking car and goes well with the right foot suitable weighted. However if I am no rush I often drop back and run at 60 in the inside lane.

Helps offset lower mpg moments, but it also quite a pleasant way to wind down. That siad, I don't bother the lorries or make them go round me.

I think, personally, if cost is an issue it would wind me the hell up if I had to cruise to be able to run the car, that said if you are in no rush or generally just wanting to relax then great.

With a decent range on a Tesla, and a commute/weekend driving duties of about 25% of total range then I see no need to ever drive in such a manner that I'm just ensuring I don't run out of charge, I'll be able to make good progress all of the time, so the notion that EVs need to crawl on the motorway is only for pensioners, people not in a rush or EVs such as the MK1 leaf etc.

have to say on long journeys in my 5.7 Supercharged V8 .. I sit at constant speed .. as you get good MPG as engine is basically ticking over..
however not 55 or 60 mine will sit happily at 70 - 75 , and as other have said offsets a bit for playing with the car at other times, even though the temptation to open up now and again is still there.. :-)

In a fast, powerful car you're a magnet for police and for idiots who want to prove how fast they are. Sitting a bit under the speed limit on cruise in lane 1 keeps trouble away and doesn't really change arrival time.
