Lovely car.
I was considering on of these or the Golf GTE for my next car, but unsure if it’ll suit my commute.
I drive 16 miles each way, 14 each being motorway.
I was told this type of commute wouldn’t suit these cars, is that correct?
The Passat GTE will handle that commute with ease. You might not do the whole commute on electric only, but you probably won't even notice when the ICE kicks in. Incredible car.I was considering on of these or the Golf GTE for my next car, but unsure if it’ll suit my commute.

These are fantastic cars if you use the plug in aspect at home and keep that battery topped up. My good friend bought one in September last year and has only used one tank of fuel, and that was on a trip to cornwall we all took for golf. He did say he only managed low thirties travelling three up on that trip driving normally on mostly motorways.
I think you just need to look at your journey, you'll be running the ICE on your motorway section without a doubt, but around town you'll always be in Electric mode unless you're giving it some beans.
Great car

I have one 'up here' in Norway. I drive an hour a day for my total commute, I can pull 72mpg total in -10c.
Trick is knowing the best parts of your commute to use the battery up. Nice flowing flat straight sections. Prewarming when plugged in is essential, or using Webasto heater if fitted.

At motorway speeds the battery is used up fairly quickly, so you would be lucky to get there, certainly in winter when it's cold and dark. You can stick it into battery hold for motorways and just mix and match depending on traffic speeds. I have a 15 mile commute, half motorway & half city. If i don't charge at work, It's on battery hold for most of the motorway. When I am charging at work i do it all on EV, but there is only a few miles left at each end. I have not driven in summer yet, so things can only get better. If it's a private car probably not worth it, but if it's a company car the BIK makes the difference.I was considering on of these or the Golf GTE for my next car, but unsure if it’ll suit my commute.
