Looking for honest opinions on the X5 40e from owners.

Took a quick test drive the other day but the battery wasn't charged so was on petrol the whole time.

What are they really like to live with?

Thanks

Hi,
A colleague has one at work. My impressions having driven a demonstrator, as passenger and speaking to him:
Its a very very nice place to be (as you'd expect for an X5 i guess!)
With the battery and engine working together in the sport modes, its impressive given its bulk and weight
The battery doesn't last very long at all, particularly in cold weather (I see exactly the same with the C350e, so not a car specific, more PHEV Specific)
The battery is likely more than enough to trundle around town/down the shops etc, and on electric as with other EV's IMO its a rewarding drive (quiet, torquey etc)
Take the book figure on battery range and roughly half it - this is probably more real world range when you throw in a few hills, cold weather and the need to dip out of junctions briskly during rush hour!
Due to its emissions and possibly list price, the BiK savings aren't massive, and indeed it rules you out from the government grant for home charge point.
Cabin pre-heat is a massive plus in my lazy opinion - particularly on something the size of the X5, not having to chip ice off the glasswork and getting into a warm cabin is worth every penny!
On petrol alone, it will be doing something in the region of 20-25 mpg
Will take a 4 bike carrier on a tow ball, and a load of bikes on the roof and not notice - there are a few I've seen towing caravans also.
The big wheels make the ride a little crashy and jarring - this is a personal preference thing obviously.

As with most PHEV's at the moment, it will likely work if either you are making a saving on BiK tax, or the majority of your mileage is short distances where you can use the electric mode.

Hope this helps.
Cheers
Rob
