Wonder watt rate (teehee) that charges at?

Fighting over who gets the lamp will also be entertaining.

One lamp per house? Two?

The haters and nay-sayers can piss & moan all they like, but you can't deny Tesla are serious about this can you.

the government and mayor of london never seam to even consider the billions that need to be spent on charging infrastructure to deliver their fantasy plans

and what about those of us who don't have a dedicated parking, or even worse live in chav infested areas where chav kids would get huge amounts of pleasure from unplugging everyone's cars each night?

You're aware that the cables lock in place while charging, right?

That looks right dodgy.

Not currently on all chargers I think.

Certainly not on the one in that pic.

Like that is gonna stop a scrote intent on causing some unwarranted damage. If you kick hard enough, they'll break.

All well a good putting sockets on lamposts (hopefully they don't develop faults where the post becomes live!) but you can't just T-off connections from the mains.... you'll need to sort the wiring (gauge, insulation), any fuses and connections and the substations etc if the intent is to have streets and streets worth of cars plugging in when they get home every evening.

There is no way that’s a pukka install surely?

Someone hasn’t done a cheeky and fitted their own socket onto a lamppost have they?

i would imagine most street lights are pretty low ampage, not many are going to be cabled for 22kw/32 amp load

What's stopping them from kicking your car instead?

I’d agree most aren’t going to be wired but most chargers like this are only 7kw (still 32a but single phase)

It's certainly what it looks like - I was assuming it was actually a privately-owned lamp post, half-way up somebody's drive...

There's no control over who uses it. There's no control over anybody sticking a fork in it. Tiewraps to hold the lid back on. Nah, I can't see it lasting longer than the next local authority inspection...

I don't know, looks dodgy as, but yet every other post I see these days is cable tied back together.

Power isn't an issue, they're not live with anything more than low voltage signalling until they're happy, although type 2 aren't sophisticated in terms of digital comms. The tie wrap, is that actually to do with the charger?

You get potentially more dangerous stiff in some places like this on the isle of man which are relying on the breakers in case somebody goes at it with a screwdriver

Oxford has been given an £800k grant "It will see six different charging technologies installed – ranging from cable gullies to retrofitting lamp posts with charging stations – with the aim of finding the best solutions for Oxford residents."

So it is a pukka install and evidence that they are actually using the money.
