New Nissan Leaf
Discussion
Announced last night, 150 mile range. 40kWh battery, bigger one to come in time. No idea when it will be available here. Sounds like a step forward in terms of tech.

235 mile range, not 150, so real world anything up to around 180-190.
Looks interesting and certainly could be a credible alternative to the Tesla 3, when that eventually hits us.
235 is based upon the Japanese testing. 150 miles is based upon the EPA testing which is seen as much more realistic. Looks interesting and certainly could be a credible alternative to the Tesla 3, when that eventually hits us.

January I think
From the pictures. It just seems like a facelift? I thought it would be an all new car.
A 40kWh battery isn't that groundbreaking, but apparently a longer range model is coming next year.
Yes, January. The main thing they've invested in is throwing in the ProPilot technology. You're right, it looks so similar to the old Leaf that chances are they want to get existing Leaf owners to upgrade and potential Tesla 3 buyers who can't wait to sign up. From the pictures. It just seems like a facelift? I thought it would be an all new car.

Yawn. The single biggest problem holding back sales of EVs is battery technology. Very early days still.

If it can manage a real world 150mile range after a few years use it might have a future in my garage.
I've been waiting for this announcement, should hopefully depreciate used Leaf prices even more than they are now. I still think for the average person who only does short journeys (less than 40 miles each way) a used Leaf makes a very good buy, you could already pick up a used Leaf for less than £10k. The money saved over something like a Golf GTE or similar hybrid means you could spend the money saved on something fun to drive for the weekend and the long trips.

If it is 150 miles with a 40kw battery then that is pretty poor, a ZOE (ok it is smaller) with a 40kw battery can get 200 miles.

Whatcar are quoting Nissan as the new Leaf doing over 230 miles in normal driving with the plus size model (due next year) doing over 300 miles: https://www.whatcar.com/news/2018-nissan-leaf-revi...
that is more like it!
The new electric motor also now produces 148bhp, an increase of 41bhp, dropping 0-60 to 8 seconds, so reasonable performance and below ~40mph it should feel a lot quicker than that.

I'd be happy with 150 which is double my 75 mile daily comute done in a 2014 24kw Leaf for the last 30 months.

if you're doing 200 miles a day, day in, day out, then you've got bigger issues than having to wait for a charge to complete.......Yawn. The single biggest problem holding back sales of EVs is battery technology. Very early days still.

Yep. There's a joke that Jimmy Carr does that sums it up...I saw a charity appeal in the Guardian the other day, and it read "Little Zuki has to walk 13 miles a day just to fetch water". And I couldn't help thinking, she should move.

It's more than a face lift, but I think they've stopped short of going wholesale on a new body. The old leaf body architecture is still there. You can see it in the pillars and in that upright van like driving position. From the pictures. It just seems like a facelift? I thought it would be an all new car.

Still it does look better. More conventional. And the interior looks like a step up too. I think they've done a good job.

You do know you don't have to stand in a pool of diesel there holding the cable in the car, you can go inside your house and watch tv? Yawn. The single biggest problem holding back sales of EVs is battery technology. Very early days still.
