Business case for commercial electric charging points?
Discussion
I am not sure this adds up but as i see it companies are fitting in these free charging points all over the place. In time, and some are now, they will begin to charge for the power.
But as tech develops and cars regularly do more than 200 miles on a charge why would anyone but a minority on long journeys bother with them when they car charge more conveniently at home? And more cost effectively?

I wonder that too. I think battery capacity is advancing faster than those who invested in this initiative perhaps first thought.
There are of course a large number of people who don't have off street parking at home, and so lamp post charging etc could be very useful in those situations.

There are definitely locations like hotels where charging will be important. Most of the major hotels in our village have chargers, mostly Tesla destination chargers.
Businesses on major routes could see a reason to put fast chargers in. The firm which I think has a huge opportunity is Macdonalds. Most of their out-of-town 'drive-through' locations are pretty close to major routes, the have reasonable parking sizes etc. I don't see this as being free but they could see an opportunity to do it 'at cost'.

Not necessarily - the McDonalds rarely own the car park or the land, they just have a lease on the commercial premises so would have little incentive to do soGassing Station | EV and Alternative Fuels | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
