I3 out of warranty
Discussion
A question for current i3 owners.
Would you risk running one once it's out of it's warranty.
We normally change our family car every four years, with the last year usually out of the manufactures warranty. For the last few cars we've had it's been no bother but in the two years and around 30k miles that we have had the i3 there have been quite a few issues.
Tyres leaking air (took a few attempts for BMW to find the issue).
Airbag/seatbelt warning.
Fuel flap electric release failed.
High voltage circuit fault (£2k repair).
And now the battery coolant leaking.
It's seriously got us thinking about whether to risk it after the third year.
The battery issue had to go via BMW assistance as the local dealer was saying carry on driving until they could look at it in a month's time.
Less than impressive response but unfortunately the norm.
The potential cost of repairs and the lack of BMW Assistance out of warranty are serious issues given the unreliability so far.
As annoying as the issues have been we'd probably choose the same again but from a different dealer.

Our first i3 ran perfectly for 25000 miles and two and a half years . Can't remember any issues , other than very poor parts availability following a minor accident . That said I have never run a bmw that is outside of warranty without buying their extended warranty and that has always been cost effective .

That doesn't sound like a car I'd want to own out of warranty! If it's been that bad over the first three years, it's not likely to get any better.Would you risk running one once it's out of it's warranty.
