Just wondering what the installation should be like in terms of the cable arrangement etc.

Consumer unit is in a coat cupboard on an external facing wall, meter is on other side of same wall in meter box so should be easy for them.

I suspect they will come down out the consumer unit internally about 3 foot then through the wall to the outside (already have an empty way)

Should the internal cable be in a chaser/armoured/in a trunk or will they simply pin to the wall?

Had ours installed just before christmas, haven't inspected the cable but i'd assume armoured and its pin'd to the wall.

I've seen a few posts of charge points installed and the external wiring seems to be in plastic conduit, nothing more and pinned to the wall. maybe ask your installer ?

I have my charging point being installed on Wednesday, the std install is just 10m of cable and only clipped to the wall. I was not happy with this as the fuseboard is in the middle of the hallway so agreed I would supply and run the cable.

They had no issue with that as long as it was 6mm armoured cable. It is a 32A point, I'm sure 4mm would handle it but happy to use 6mm to be absolutely sure. I'm assuming the MCB they will install will be 40A or similar.

Put my own 10mm T&E in for my 32A Rolec. In the loft I just clipped it to the surface, outside it was just run in plastic conduit. They wanted a free way in the consumer unit. I supplied the MCB as CU was very old and I happened to have a suitable one. Wasn't too concerned longer term as new CU now installed.

All done with their prior agreement.

Installer came out yesterday and was chatting with him before he started, where possible they'd usually just pin to the internal wall, go through straight into the back of the unit. Any external wiring is put in a trunk though.

I had some self adhesive trunking already so got him to pop the internal cable into that instead, which he was happy to do.

So do you buy an EV and then the dealer recommends an installer? And is this cheaper than finding one direct?

from my brief looking around, you can go with the preferred supplier at your dealer, or take the required paperwork and arrange it with whoever you like.

Not sure, Nissan just shunted it to their partner as being "Free" so I just arranged for them to come do the work and uplifted the standard install a little to make it a 7KW rather than the basic 3KW

we did the same with renault, they arranged with chargemaster to install ours. a few people recommended others but tbh we just stuck with it for ease.
