RE: NextEV unveils global brand NIO...
Saturday 26th November 2016
Chinese Formula E contender NextEV has revealed its NIO global brand and intention to 'help users rediscover the joyful lifestyle of car ownership'. Alongside the unveiling in London, the much-anticipated EP9 hypercar was announced under the slogan 'the fastest electric car in the world'.
NextEV unveils global brand NIO...
...and EP9 the world's fastest EV
Powered by four inboard motors connected to four individual gearboxes, the car is able to put down one MegaWatt (1,360hp) and 4,671lb ft at the wheels. That in turn, equals a 0-124mph time of 7.1 seconds and a lap of the Nordschleife in 7min 5.120sec, beating the previous EV record of 7min 22sec. Another set of numbers that may be more interesting to manufacturers breaking into the EV market is a combined range of 427km and a battery charging time of 45 minutes. Two lithium batteries sit between the front and rear wheels, are indirectly water-cooled and changeable.
Taking knowledge from motorsport, the carbon composite bodywork and chassis are built to FIA LMP1 standards with motorsport inspired underfloor aero. A full-length diffuser, front adjustable splitter and an active rear wing with three positions enable the EP9 to produce double the downforce of an F1 car. Details on pricing as and when we get it!

It was basically just a radical with some motors and batteries by Toyota, equivalent of 450hp I believe, it's about time it was beaten

Well apparently it cost $1.2 million to build and they are only making 6 of them with a consumer version to follow in 2017.

er, sorry, but r*ll*cks!
I'm the biggest fan of EVs, i drive one, i make my living engineering them, but a ultra high performance EV with "F1" levels of downforce is not a car that the average person is going to enjoy driving very much.....
(watch the N-ring video. the car is ludicrously, massively, stupendously fast, but totally soulless and inert. Buy a mclaren F1, you'll be about 2 min slower round the lap, but by the end of it you'll feel more alive than you have ever done before! (assuming you're haven't actually died when you've crashed you 600bhp, no electronic aids and 1990's braked mega car ;-)

For me this is not about 'supercar' - it's about 'every cat'.
The momentum with which the EV world seems to be moving, is fantastically conflicting to see. The demand for the Model 3, the incredible speed from something like this...all these things signal the decline of the ICE for passenger vehicles in an ever shortening time frame.
Theres a lot said on here about SUVs - but you have a look around. If it's not a million Nissan Jukes or Quish Quashes, it's Audi Q's and Range Rovers and BMW Xs etc. They gone from being the symbol of the country set, to being the type of car that average people buy instead of a Micra. Now look forward 10 years and tell me that EVs won't be as common as the current SUV trend. It's looking more likely, isn't it?
Really, how long before the only ICE in a manufacturer's lineup is a sub-halo model sold in limited numbers (think Porsche GT3 etc). I say sub-halo, because with performance on deck like the car featured here, all too quickly the halo model from each manufacturer will be something like this.
Make the most of your engines while you can - by the time your grand kids are asking you about 'your day', they will be merely a memory to share.
Exciting and sad all at the same time.

The Chinese are coming fast! Bye Bye Tesla.
Why is it someone always has to post this in every ev thread? The tesla is a real car that you can buy and drive. This, the Porsche and jaguar Ev's aren't.
If it wasn't for Tesla cars like this simply wouldn't exist.
I get excited every time someone announces a new EV, but until they are building more than 10 of them and people can buy them, then I am holding my excitement. I-Pace included.
