I think that if VW have genuinely decided to make a clear push into this market it will transpire that their corporate dishonesty will have been the trigger to start a real EV push and that if they start seeing profits then the others will follow.

The two interesting aspects from this are that firstly they are pushing this through premium vehicles. As PHers we've all been aware that until there is a massive change in power source the EV only commercially works at the premium end. As such, if you are going to have to be of above average wealth to own an EV then how is this clarity going to sit with the evangelical loons who have wrapped their EV belief into their hatred of the wealthy? biggrin.

Yogurt weavers have long retarded the EV movement with their insane rantings but it does look like the future of the EV in its primary, commercially viable phase will be driven by capitalist filth. smile

The other really interesting aspect is that VW will have to sign a supply deal for batteries and it will be a very important deal in regards to who wins that contract. Whether it will be one of their partners in China, whether they invest directly themselves or whether they contract with Tesla. This could be the most important deal for Tesla to date and validate their current business plan.
