Calling Leaf Owners
Discussion
Guys and Gals,
looking to get the other half a pre loved 64 plate (8k Miles) 24KWh Leaf as 99% of her days driving is < 30 miles.
However looking at the figure we also have a plan B to use it for my commute.
Now my commute is 60 Mile rounds trip so I have a couple of questions.
Is that range comfortable in the depths of winter (all dual carriageway but lots of traffic).
Give the mileage for me is ~18k per year would I be killing the battery ?
Any other Gotchas I should be looking out for ?

There should be plenty of choice as those on cheap 2 year PCPs come back to dealers over the next 5 months.
IMO 60 miles is about the limit of a comfortable winter's round trip. Getting a model with the air source heat pump would make it a touch more comfortable as you'd use less battery clearing the windscreen. Heated seats & steering wheel on the Tekna mean that you can get away with less heating on the go (whilst still being comfortable) too.
As for high miles, there are examples out there which demonstrate that the battery life is not being heavily affected by frequent charging.

Depends on traffic speed really. If you are doing 70 consistently in cold weather, then I would say that a 60 mile commute is too far on a single charge.
You would want the car in ECO mode and keep the speed down to 50mph or so for that distance. It would do it but you would be using most of the car's range to do it.In the winter cold my car uses 35% of the car to do a commute of 27 miles. In the summer it uses 28-29%. Quite a large difference.
My margin for error is so huge, though, that this does not matter. On a there and back commute of 60 miles that margin could mean not getting home.
If you could get a charge at work, whilst you work, the distance would be just fine.

Guy I work with has a Leaf with 50k miles on. Hes still gets 70 miles per charge so I would hazard a guess you should be fine. No way of charging at work?
Would have to use a public point over lunch, which not the end of the world, seems a bit too inconvienient to rely on.
My Gen2 Leaf Acenta (64 reg) is on 37k miles, it gets rapid charged from approx 40% to max 5 days a week, no sign of the battery going off par.
Drive to work 40 miles,
6 @ 50
12 fast m/way 70 - way too fast
16 busy m/way 50-70
6 stop / start 30 to 40
Summer 50-55% left
Winter Heater on 24 degrees all the way, (pre-heat before leaving) 40-50% left.
Sat morning clear run, 40 miles in 40 minutes, 30% left.
With care a 60 mile round trip can be done however hills make a difference.
I'd be having a 24h test drive and see if it works for you.
BTW I never use Eco mode, I did press once by mistake

Well having just used a certain reverse bid Site I can get a new 30Kwh on PCP within budget so think that solves my issue
Cheers Guys ... think you confirmed what I thought on just a little too tight.
Would you mind elaborating? Quite a few of us on here are assessing options when our ~20 month old cars shortly head back to the dealer.Cheers Guys ... think you confirmed what I thought on just a little too tight.
PS - my mum took delivery of a B250e yesterday. She paid cash, but discount on list was in excess of £10k, so a PCP may have been quite appealing. It has 28Kwh and first impression is that it blows the Leaf away in every respect (and I say that as a Leaf fan) apart from servicing costs and rapid charging.

Basically slapped the details into carwow and let them bid couple of decent "finance" quotes came inso went back to them and asked them to price up a PCP deal on that basis.tankplanker said:
What is the max safe range that the 30kwh leaf cover in the Winter?
At the moment mine is getting 105 mile range on the cold days, that would normally be 115 upto a max of 120.The used 24 would have to be a hell of a deal to get me to consider, it was far easier to get a 30 on a cheap PCP in my case.
