Here's some videos for those of you who are borderline thinking of getting an i3 and not quite sure if it's the right choice... Trust me, it is the right choice! I've had some nice cars in my time, and these really are such good fun to drive... Do it, do it..!

Tour of my Protonic Blue 94 ah i3:-

POV Drive around town:-

and charging and range:-

Hope you enjoy them, (and if you're deciding) they help to push you over the edge and sign on the dotted line... Or for those of you that are waiting for your new car, I hope they help get you through the days until your new car arrives!

Any questions, let me know.
Cheers

For those of you that are worried about range, we've just been on a 'road trip' to Norfolk and back, and the car achieved a 'real world' range of 114 miles on battery power alone. This was mainly on the motorway and a-roads, so not much chance of any brake regen, so I can confirm the range figures BMW are quoting for a 94Ah i3 in their marketing materials are very accurate.

We achieved 103.1 miles (which was the journey there), with 10 miles of electric range still remaining - we were using Eco-Pro driving mode, and driving 'normally' the whole way there and back. With the range extender (REx), there is always the backup if you run out of electric of the range extender to charge the battery, giving a combined range of 194 miles.

Thanks for those, found them really useful.
I'm on the edge of crossing the Rubicon into i3 ownership.
I also note you're local to me, did you purchase from Specialist Srevenage?

I was for a while, but glad we made the decision to do it - they're such a cool / different car to own than anything else out there... AND, the range(s) quoted are genuine real world.

I did originally place my order with Specialist Cars in Stevenage, but felt like I didn't get a good deal, so looked around and got a MUCH better deal from Sytner BMW in Loughton - would highly recommend them.

If you PM me, happy for you to pop over and look at the cars / ask any questions etc.

Many thanks, might take you up on your kind offer.

My plan is lease mine through a limited company of which I'm a director as a company car...

Just thought I'd add to this thread with a new video of general real world commuting on battery power alone. I achieved 124 miles, which is 10 miles more than the BMW literature figure of 114miles.

I would question why you'd want to drive in eco pro - the advantage over other electric cars that the i3 has is that it has decent performance . If people want to drive in eco pro they may as well buy a Leaf or similar and save a decent amount of money .
Whilst your achievement is " real world " , I'm pretty sure its isn't typical of the normal range users get .
That said I've just ordered a 94ah and I hope I get a significant improvement over the current one which was woefully short of BMW's claims .

You can still get the performance when driving in Eco-Pro or Eco-Pro+, but you just need to press the throttle harder - as a current owner, I guess you know that already tho?!?

In my opinion the driving modes should be named as follows:-
  • Comfort should be called 'Sport' (due to the throttle response and less brake regen)
  • Eco-Pro should be called 'Comfort' (more brake regen and very slightly dulled throttle response)
  • and the Eco-Pro+, should be called 'Eco' (no climate control, no heated seats, etc etc)

It was a test to see how far I could get, and was real world - there were some occasions where I put my foot down too... Some users are suggesting on the BEV (not the REx's we have) they can achieve 150miles on a charge - I'm not sure this is entirely possible, but there you go.

That's the NEDC range (in lab conditions.)

Good luck with it - I think they are great cars, and the 94Ah version seems much better than the 60Ah version we tested. I guess it all depends on how you drive it though. All the best.
