Having had a skim back through this forum I'm surprised at the lack of mentions of the GTE - I had thought that apart from the Teslas it would be the most PH of the PHEVs currently on sale. The reviews pointing out that with 200kg+ of batteries and e-motor over the GTI it's not quite as dynamically sparkling are correct, but it's no whale and is great fun on a B road with the drivetrain set to max power GTE mode.
We've had ours (6 month old approved used car, formerly the demonstrator at a Ridgeway branch) for a couple of weeks now and can't really fault it - in fact the only thing that's taken a bit of getting used to is just how much torque there is in e-mode, it's very easy to trigger the traction control when pulling away and going over a wet manhole cover. The radar cruise control has even managed to do this a couple of times when doing an automatic pull away.
Has anyone else on here got one? Thoughts?
