Hi All

After much deliberation I put an order in for 90D on Friday... I went backwards and forwards for months but with the pending price rises (Today apparently) I decided to take the plunge, There really is nothing like it!.

I am looking at options for home charging and im thinking about just going with a 32A commando socket, I need to double check the wiring but my garage is on a 32A circuit itself as it used to feed a hot tub.

Running a new 32A from the board isn't a huge job but will require a trench...

So.. any thoughts on the above or recommendation for a Type 2 charger?

Congratulations on the order! We've just been through this though admittedly on a smaller scale - our new Golf GTE only has an 8.8kw/h battery so we decided to forego a dedicated charger and put a regular 13A socket outside as charging from empty only takes 3 and a bit hours.

We did speak with a couple of electricians and suppliers about proper charger units - Rolec was the name that kept coming up, they do a wall charger that will do 16 or 32A and has all 3 common connector types and seemed to be well regarded. The only glaring issue is the fact that as standard they come in a very unsubtle white with green trim.

Honestly, I'd really recommend going for a tethered connector over a socket and lead setup.

At my main house I went for a POD Point S7 tethered unit, and it's great that all you have to do is take the connector and plug it in and walk away. The only downside I can see is you have to open the charging flap from the key or touchscreen, as the socket doesn't have the button (although there's a kit online that allows you to install it if you're that bothered).

I have another house which I charge at less frequently, and I went for a blue commando socket there as it was cheaper and I wasn't sure how long I'll have the property for, so wasn't worth spending more than I needed to. It works fine, but the hassle of opening the boot and getting charging cable out, and having to plug it in both ends (and then put the cable away again) is not worth it as your sole charging point. The hassle is doubled if it's raining if course!

So whichever system you go for (POD, Chargemaster, Rolec?) I really would advise a tethered solution.

Do you qualify for the OLEV charger grant? Likely to be a cheaper option.

Thanks Guys... I saw the green and white unit and wasn`t exactly blown away.

I waited with baited breath yesterday for the face lift / price increase, I was thinking id end up cancelling if I was going to end up with a car that had already been superseded.

Anyway a quick email... Oh no.. You get the new car at the old car price!!!

Few piccys from the configuration tool ... Im excited to say the least, I really like the new front end.

I went with a Pod Point 7 with a tethered cable, which as MikeC says, means you just drive up and plug in, so no need to get a cable out of the boot etc.
For my other house I purchased a Rolec unit which is cheaper to purchase than the Pod Point 7 and has the additional benefit of a conventional 13Amp socket to plug in pressure washer/hoover etc. The bright green colour scheme wasn't an issue as it's tucked away in an outside shed.
BTW; Congratulations on your order - when is it due (with the new front styling etc.?).

I have to say, Tesla do seem pretty fair like that! Some of it will be to limit complications at their end manufacturing wise I'm sure, but they could easily have offered the original model at the same price, or a chance to upgrade for a cost increase, so I'm pleased to say they haven't done that and just honoured your original price! Looks like you got a good deal there smile

Big question is...did you go Ludicrous?! smile

Ha - No... I have gone for a plain 90D, Midnight Silver, 21s, Pano Roof, Black gen 2 seats, Black Headliner and piano black inlays then every option apart from rear facing seats. The total inc Vat came to £87500, new pricing structure is £93200 so a £5700 saving.

Yes I could have had a 911.... but I really do think Iv backed the right horse with a everyday "supercar". I just hope Musk succeeds and Tesla are in business for a long time yet!.

I think the P90d and Ludicrous are too much for what they add. 4.2 sec`s is still faster than my current golf R

Nice spec!

I also ordered a 90D as I thought it would be plenty fast enough and I wanted as much range as possible, but then I went home to be met with considerable disbelief by the whole family who persuaded me to change my order to a P90D! They argued I'd always miss the opportunity to select Insane mode, and I must admit that since taking delivery at the beginning of this year I've actually never taken it out of Insane mode.

I stayed with the 19 inch wheels as my token gesture towards better range though :-) !

Haha, I love the whole decision process - I think we all went through the same loops! smile

If I were buying now I have to say I would go P90D, but not Ludicrous mode; £8,700 is too much to go from 3.1s to 2.8s, and 3.1s is still shocking enough acceleration! But I'd want Insane mode I'm sure of that.

I'm still pretty pleased with my P85+ though; still does 0-60 in 4.2s, same as the 85D/90D, but obviously I get slightly less range - hasn't been issue so far, though. And it has all the toys bar the rear seats (inc. Autopilot) so I'm happy! smile
