After the Zoe / Leaf lease .....
Discussion
We have 9 months left on the Zoe and 11 months on the Leaf but I was thinking "what next" we really got a bargain with these cars both costing £3,600 over 2 years and its saved my Mrs a fortune plus she has only ever had a range issue once which was easily solved (she does 6k a year running around).
The leaf has done 2500 miles in a year because I used it as a commuter for my 14 mile trip to my old place of work and I dont do much running around.
I have been looking at the cheapest owned Leaf / Zoe thinking I would buy one and just run it till it dies if we get 3/4 years we have made money on it and I am sure it will be worth "something" even then.
Cheapest Leaf is £7k owned and Zoe £5500 but with battery on top at £700 a year so would probably be a Leaf.
Unless they do some great deals in a year ?

PCH deals for normal cars are pretty cheap.
Nissan juke 1.6 petrol is under £4k for 2 years for 10k pa. http://www.swiftlease.co.uk/personal-lease-cars/ni...
Leaves you just over £1k for fuel, servicing and road tax for 2 years. If you do a very low mileage in the car then it could be cheaper to get a normal petrol.
If you are paying the london congestion charge a lot then another EV easily pays for itself.
You could probably get something cheaper but it's likely to be a city car or something even more ugly like the Cactus.

Your right about a juke etc but the leaf is pre heated, quiet and comfy a joy to commit in. Needs more thought
Completely agree about the qualities of the Leaf. Surely the way forward is to wait until you are about 2 months before the end of the lease, then check what deals are available on a lease. If nothing attractive is available, just buy a Tekna spec, lightly used one.

Starting to think about this too
Zoe is on 14200 miles now with 18k on the lease that ends at Xmas
Would have another, even at a bit more than the £153 per month this one is costing.
Like the look of the i3, but not worth 2 Zoes!

The mitsubish imiev, citroen c zero and Peugeot equivalent look like contenders for the cheap outright purchase.
There been a couple of used 60kWh Model S appear on the Tesla pre-owned website for £40k ish. Currently there's even a 85kWh S on for £46k. Give it another 12 month an used prices will be getting close to <£35k. Bear in mind the 4 year and 50K warranty that comes with each approved Model S, that's getting down to half sensible money for a EV with much better range than either the Leaf or Zoe.
That's the route am going down anyways .

Have Tesla sorted the issue with the drive trains failing at 50,000 miles or so? Does that new after market warranty cover it for another 50,000 miles on top of whatever current mileage it has on it?
Pre heating is easy to get: http://www.webasto.com/gb/markets-products/car/ret...
It's been around for years. I was looking at getting something similar over a decade ago

I am picking up a 2014 i3 Rex tomorrow, 3.5k miles, paid 20.5k.
Zoe trade in bid was 3k. 20 mths old, 6 k miles, dynamique intens. So you should be able to get a hefty discount
On one of the 70 for sale on autotrader which might make the outright purchase cheaper than lease on say a 2 yr view.....
Zoe has been terrific for my 15mile daily commuting. I fancied something a bit smarter now I am an EV convert and the flexibility of Rex I find v appealing. Will report back..,,
