Does anyone think BMW will do anything to offset the loss of the £5000 ev subsidy from the government to entice new prospective i8 customers to place an order.....losing a £5000 contribution is significant in my opinion.

On a £14k-after-contribution Zoe, yes.
On a £100k+ i8? Sorry, my taxes have better uses.

I think that BMW would have some pretty tough questions to answer if they were to reduce the list price by £5k after the subsidy is removed. That's not to say that they may start offering a dealer contribution to offset it wink

As has been said earlier in the thread - I've felt that the subsidy on these higher cost EV cars would've probably been better spent elsewhere to promote EV take-up, so the removal has not come soon enough.

+1. How about on a reliable nationwide fast charge network?

The i8 is a hybrid isn't it, not an EV? I see no reason at all why it should be taxpayer subsidised.

The subsidy has gone already, went on the 18th of Feb, as the government pulled the support early and with just 24hrs notice.

Only for vehicles in Cat 1 and Cat 2 with a price tag of over £60,000. A price cap has been introduced for BMW i8, Porsche Panamera, Merc S500 and Volvo XC90. This is to maximise the "everyday motorists" who can benefit.

All vehicles in Cat 1 are still eligible for the full £4,500 grant.

About time that we made sure that wealthy people get literally nothing back ever for all the tax they pay.
Miserly and ineffectual little policy to withdraw the grant.

Mmm. Sense of perspective, perhaps?

In London I've seen 20 or so i8's, at £105,000 each base price I dont think the £5,000 makes a difference at all

Nope, I am a firm believer in equality. Everyone should pay the same flat rate of TAX. Everyone should receive the same amount of benefits (disabilities excluded). Some one who is successful for the most part, is so because they work hard. Why should they get penalised for working hard and planning ahead?
