I am/was about to order a new Outlander gx4h PHEV and benefit from full 5k grant before end of February.
Now, just looking into newly launched BMW 225xe which is cheaper and even with similarly optioned out high spec, is barely more expensive.
Car is marginally smaller, but is a bmw, is faster, can be made to measure with panoramic roof/nice bespoke leather/ colors ( maybe not a bentley, but so many more colors and leathers available).
Is this a no brainer? Why is outlander ( admittedly quite nice since facelift) so much more popular?
Any opinions? Am about to choose!

You've answered your own question: the BMW is "newly launched", whilst the PHEV Outlander has been out for a couple of years now...

I bought the Outlander over the BMW for a couple of things, I didn't like the looks of the BMW, I think it looks like a Meriva. I like having the higher driving position and seating position for placing children in the back.

Thank you - I sort of agree, as much as I wanted to love the bmw active tourer....
We went to see it, and despite reviews of it being roomy and having more legroom than a 5-series (?)... It felt small and cramped even with the panoramic roof. And yes... It looked a bit strange....I do think it will drive better and have a sportier feel to it...but that would beat main purpose of buying a family car PHEV.
I would have expected my wife to really prefer bmw...but not even she came to the rescue.
I ordered the Outlander gx4h - ruby black - last Friday.......

Funny, my wife was the same. Even with the amount of plastic in the Outlander, especially in the rear cabin.

Time will tell how well the plastic lasts, however I've managed to scratch the plastic in the boot area with the cover already.
