This looks impressive! 200 mile range, $37500 before rebates .. shame it's for NA only. Released later this year.

Hopefully will spur BMW, Nissan to release longer range EVs.

As a GM car, what are the chances of it coming here with some styling tweaks and Vauxhall/Opel badges, as the Ampera/Volt did?

If this works, it could be the first proper EV for the masses.

Regrettably none. It's an improvement over the old car and with better styling.

The tech in it is great and it's good value for money. Until you add on import duty and VAT.

I read a while ago that they weren't going to make any RHD versions, so they don't deem the UK market (plus many other RHD countries) viable. Perhaps if the Ampera sold better here, things could have been different.

Stick a ford badge on and it would sell like crazy in Europe.

What do you think the i3, Zoe and Leaf are?

Real world 80-120+ mile ranges.
Practical
Nice to drive
Can keep up with traffic flow
Can beat most ICE cars off the lights :-)
Very easy to live with

The Chevy Bolt a totally new all-electric car. You're thinking about the Chevy Volt, which is a petrol-electric hybrid. Daft & confusing naming I know.

If the Bolt does well in the US, I can't see why we wouldn't see it over here in Vauxhall/Opel guise. I know that we're not getting the new version of the Volt and that GM is pulling the Chevy brand out of Western Europe (sans Corvette).

A real shame we aren't getting the Volt MK2. By all accounts I think its a brilliant piece of engineering and I think puts the Volt where it should have been the first time round. I think, just, they've got it out before it becomes a bit irrelevant. As it is, its got the long range covered and much more useful EV mode than other hybrids so should still prove popular. But eventually cars like the Bolt will become the obvious choice as BEV range gets better and better.

The Bolt appears to be pretty nippy too. mid 7's to 60 is more than quick enough for this type of car.

That still falls into second car territory to me. Lets say you wanted to do a 100 mile round trip, which is only an hour each way. If you get to your destination and the charger is dud you'll realistically have to stop somewhere on the way back - this is an inconvenience to too many. I know on a day to day back and forth the range isn't an issue, but 200 miles gives you that flexibility in the bank that you don't have to plan your trips around chargers.

I'm well into the for EV camp, it's just the realist in me that thinks this.

Wow a 60kWh battery, pretty hefty! 1600kg doesn't sound too bad considering that. More interior space than a Tesla Model S apparently.

Sounds good value at not much more than a 30kWh Leaf and less than an i3, hope it makes it to Europe.

Looks really good, if Tesla can deliver something similar when they announce the 3, 2017 will be a big year for mass market battery EVs.

Contrast that to the problems Toyota is having supporting the Mirai.

Opel have announced it coming to Europe as the Ampera-e. Still nothing from Vauxhall for the UK as far as I know. http://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/could-be-...

I do hope they bring it here. It looks more sensible than either the zoe or new leaf. 200 mile range is a minimum really as cold weather really drops the range.

The battery also needs to be included in the price and have a decent warranty.

Looks like it will be more expensive than the Tesla model 3 - with no established high speed charging network. Not a bad effort though.
