So I'm thinking of buying a Twizy
Discussion
Before you laugh or question my sexuality...there is method to my madness. I will most likely have a 507 soon and it will cost me around £4500 a year in fuel. I work 10 miles from home (the wife works 3 miles away) and a lot of my journeys are short. So I'm thinking of something fun, different and cheap for around 5000 miles a year...which by my man maths means a saving of £650 if you don't include the cost of buying the Twizy (which shouldn't depreciate much). The wife won't let me have a bike and I don't want another full scale car if that makes sense.
Has anyone else done something similar? Am I just going crazy because I sold my last fun car and haven't replaced it yet? A 507hp 6.2ltr v8 and a 17hp 0ltr v0 are poles apart! smile

Problem is I don't like the Leaf...or any other EV 'car'. I like the Twizy as it's just silly and fun!
Battery cost looks like £49 a month and insurance £200 annually, I could get one (used is all I'm looking at) for £4000 with doors. Sound sensible/viable? Any horror stories with failure on the Twizy as it's French?

True enough...but I don't want just a tool, I want something that is a little fun at least. Was thinking scooter but wife would never allow it so Twizy is the best thing I can think of. I've done the 3-4 car thing and am going down to 1 car now (well 2 if you consider Twizy). The C63 is my daily driver/fun car
sounds good fun, I sat in one at a motorshow and thought they would be good way of having a more interesting vehicle that A: you can't fall off like a scooter, B: you can't fall off and be laughed at (even more) like a quad bike C: fall off and lose your licence like a motorbike!
I say that as someone who used to commute on a motorbike and now has a Leaf for my daily (dull ) commute. Anyone who says they feel vulnerable in these clearly hasn't ridden a motorbike or scooter in traffic!
photos please when it arrives!

Hi
I've owned a twizy for 9 months and drove it through the winter.surprisingly comfy with the windows installed.
I used to commute 10 miles each way by electric bike but had too many near misses.
Gets loads I'd attention .think pagani zonda painted pink. And your still not close.
Great little car and costs me 30 pence to do 18 miles .
You have to lease the battery and if buying secondhand you can get it for £30/ month as a new owner but milage limited to 1500 miles.but this can be defeated with a little trick.
Many times I've read it costs 45/ month upwards but it can be done like me for £30 which is nothing really.
You can take corners at a surprising speed and it's just great fun.
I don't think I will ever get rid of it.
It can be bumpy over rough roads but you soon get used to it.
In short get one.!!!!!!!

Well, I paid just shy of 4k for a 2013 car (Urban model) with 5500 on the clock. It still has 24 months of warranty and servicing from Renault. The battery you lease from Renault and I've gone for the £45 option which is the cheapest of the stock options for upto 4,500 miles a year over 36 months.
My car came with the alloys, doors and the custom Renault F1 paint job. It also came with the Elia chip (£400) and the detachable windows (£400) so all in was a decent price...included delivery to Surrey from Southampton also.
It's only day one but my first drive was fun. After 20 miles I've got 50% charge left but I have and will drive the doors off the thing as it's purely for fun and to keep the fuel cost and mileage down on the upcoming C63.

Like I say, it's early days and the weather is good right now! I'm in Effingham and yes, happy to take you out for a pint in it
If you think of it as nothing more than cheap/free fun, something that nobody else has and that offers a truly unique take on the commute...it's a bit of a no brainer to me. I worked out that I'm no better or worse off for owning it over the coming 2-3 years, so why wouldn't I?
