We have been offered a leaf deal but the car has a solar sunroof which I think was a £300 option. Does it actually work? Most of the dealers I have spoken to have been pretty sceptical of its value in topping up the battery...

Its a solar spoiler, not sunroof and from what I've heard it doesn't really appear to be worth it if you ask me (and I'm getting one on mine but thats only because it was already specced)

Its doesnt top up the battery... Imagibe 300V wiring going through the tailgate grommet!

It simply drives the cabin fan to pull air through the car so its not quite as unpleasant in hot weather.

It provides charge to the standard 12V (auxiliary) battery in the vehicle, not the main traction battery.

Its like those solar trickle chargers you can buy for a normal car and plug in via the cigarette lighter and leave on the dash.

Id deem it pretty pointless in this country!

Jonny,

It's not the voltage but the current which determines the wire gauge.

Oh yeah I know that, Its a tiny cable.

Just not really what you want flexing and bending repeatly and then potential cut with firemen jaws!

Mine has one but I would say:

- it not worth spacing if you have to pay for it
- you get green algae growing in there joint between the panel and the plastic spoiler.
