Folks,
I’m getting a couple of the home charging points fitted shortly and wanted to know what the score was with the installation?
I'm wanting mine placed next to our parking area and not on my garage wall. Theres just a couple of issues with this.

a) There’s no power supply to the area I want them. So shall I get a sparky to come and lay cable upto the point or do the installers do that? What cable would I need and I assume it would need its own RCB? Anything else I need to instruct the electrician if he going to do it? Can anyone tell me the draw of the Nissan Leaf on charge?

b) There’s not actually a wall where I want them either, just wooden fence panels and concrete posts. Would they mount them on the posts? If not, I was going to buy a couple of sleepers and fix them into the ground upright, would this be suffice for them?

Anything else I need to be aware of for the installation?
Thanks in advance.
Benn.

Have you started the process yet? If not, I would highly recommend using Phoenix Works. You will get honest, no bullst replies to any question you ask. If you have sorted a supplier you really need to talk to them first.

Mine is fitted to the outside of my garage wall (didn't want the hassle on opening and closing garage door every time) there was no electricity supply there. Charger is approx 30 feet away from the consumer box, this was all part of having it fitted.

Not yet, I have just called a couple of companies including your recommendation and as it turns out, it doesn't have to be British gas that make the install! Funny old thing but no-one at the dealership told me that!
Anyway, have an inspection booked for next week, looks like I'm going to need to extensive re-wiring done to get this sorted as the current boxes and looms look like a mad womans s**t!

The company you select to do the install will extend the cable if necessary and just charge you, if it is beyond the scope of the OLEV grant.

The installer will ask for photographs of your meter, and details of the cable runs that you think will be required before they confirm anything via email.

I would suggest you write a short document showing the details of your meter, where you would like the charger to be installed, how you think the cable run would work etc. You can then see if you can find any of the registered installers who will do it within the amount of money provided by the OLEV grant.

I signed up with Nuworld energy to do my install. They offered a free upgrade to a 32amp charger, which is worth having, even though I only am getting a 3.3kw on my leaf, as it helps with future compatibility.

I also selected a Type 1 tethered cable, which can be upgrade in the future to a Type 2 (6.6kw charger) if necessary in the future.

As an aside, Nuworld energy appear to have outsourced the install to a company called Airco. They normally charge for the upgrade to a 32amp charger, according to the information they emailed to me, although they will honour the agreement made with nuworld.

Anyone got any setups so they can charge inside and out? I was thinking a hatch or an external plug of some kind.
