Trying to Justify a New EV
Discussion
Can get a new Leaf on PCP for £189 a month, over two years. Cost, including charging for 15k (7.5 per year) over 24mth's is under 5k, then hand car back. Or, buy a small car for 3k, and factor in 2k fuel costs for 15k over 24mth.
With a second hand ICE I'll still have the residual value of the car but, also have to allow for possible repair bills and consumables as it will be 2nd hand. So working on this theory I imagine I'd be about 1.5k better off financially. I know I've probably missed something but the biggest issue is driving a brand new car for two years versus an oldish runaround for the sake of fifteen hundred quid.
What would you do, or any better suggestions?

Yes, driven both Leaf and Zoe and thought they were great (preferred the Leaf over the Zoe) but, now I've retired (gone to 50% wage) I have to try and justify costs. I suppose I could use the "it's a new car so less likely to breakdown and covered under warranty theory" although reading the Zoe stories not sure if counts
Don't need the car till March so will need to order the Leaf soon if I'm going to do it.

Would go for the Leaf (I did and it's been great!) though depends a lot on what type of journeys you need to do / ease of charging at home.
I'm considering upgrading my MK1 Leaf at the moment with a two year PCP deal. Does anyone know what a good monthly payment target would be for a new Tekna with around 10,000 miles per year?

Thanks Tony that gives me something to aim for.
I purchased my current MK1 Leaf outright pre-reg for £19500. Was a company purchase thus got 20% off that effectively as a corporation tax offset - £14500. At nearly three years old (I've had it for 2 and a quarter years) I would think it's now worth around £8K (minus another £1.6K payback of company tax if I sell it). So depreciation has worked out at roughly £3600 per year.
Looks like will be cheaper to go PCP if I can get a similar monthly deal as yourself.

Guys on leaftalk say they have a £150 a month deal with £500 down on Teknas with metallic paint ... no codes required.
Yes, limited offer now finished They still have a pretty good deal though but, unfortunately not as good as the one I already have. If anyone is interested it's £1,000 deposit and £183 a month for two years on a Tekna. I spoke to a guy called Jacky on 01224 402990 and their based in Aberdeen.tony wright said:
When do they start worrying about sales volume, early, middle of March?
Not sure to be totally honest - I have a feeling it is actually cars registered by end of January. That seems like a pretty good deal really - sub £200 a month on a Tekna is very good indeed and it's a small deposit. Probably only the 3.3 charger and solid paint, but for that money both are livable.I have a Tekna myself and it really is a nice car. Not a £30K car, no, but a £20K one yes. Even with today's fuel prices I would be burning £160 a month in petrol so £183 would be a bargain!
Despite my problems, may I suggest a look at a Zoe, available for around £150 a month brand new, £129 deposit.

They're back to being that cheap already? Wow, I thought it would take longer.http://www.evanshalshaw.com/brands/renault/ze-rang...
I can't speak highly enough of my Leaf. It's the Acenta model and after 5k miles I still think "wow" every time I drive it.
If you are in the market fr a new, or fairly new car of that size, and if your driving habits work with the mileage limitations, it really is a no-brainer.
Great car to drive, very well built, very well equipped and a really nice place to be.
