Well I'm about to take the leap of faith & collect our pre-registered '64 plate Zoe on Saturday.

So this week has been all about sorting insurance, applying for Ecco cards etc.

One thing that struck me is that the Zoe's insurance group is 16 vs my wife's old 1.2 petrol Micra that was a miserly 3.

Is it just the new tech that frightens the insurance company & thus loads the premiums?

16 is quite low. It's largely dictated by costs to repair.

UK insurance groups go up to group 50, so 16 is still a low insurance group. http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/insurance/car-insura...

Hmm I wonder if you're right - it was Admiral Multicar policy.

Think I'll ring them back - was extra £160 over the old Micra, which seemed high, although the Zoe is worth 6 times the value of the Micra!!

On the Parkers link I posted above you can search for a year and model of car to see what group it's in.

I have been quoted with Aviva £180 with 6 years no claims, my FX50 is £450 with 9 years no claims - I live in Birkenhead hence higher than average premiums

Do you happen to know whether that quote specifically covers the £7k battery pack on lease as well as the rest of the car that is bought?

Apologies for the questions, but I've probably read far too many forum posts around this topic & want to make sure that I am covered!

Its fully comprehensive and Aviva are aware of a Zoe and what is in a Zoe (and a Leaf) - the entire car is insured

The biggest cost of insurance is the risk of your car hitting something else not what its worth. A mate of mine just won over a milion quid in court from someone who crashed into him. You can work out the difference the car makes by getting a quote for third party only and fully comp. Not usually much in it.

As. side not... its worth doing your advanced driving test. A lot of places give you about 10% off as you are 50% less likely to be involved in an accident and even less likely to cause one. About £150 and a few evenings of your spare time is what it costs.

Explained about leased battery to new insurer who agreed to cover it as well as the car, but refused to put this in writing when asked. No need sir, this call is recorded and I will add notes to your file... er no, I tried to explain if it is not in writing to me that I do not accept its done, sorry sir I work in a call center and this is what the manager said.

rant over.

Just been doing quotes for my Gf on the Zoe using the merkat site.

Best known insurer quote (lv) was £440 odd with her seven years ncd.

Added me with my 9 points and sheilas wheels will do it for £270 ! Haha

funny old game =)

quotemehappy were good I thought, until I forgot to change my christian name to my wifes when the autoformfill software did its work.

Quotemehappy only deal via email, which isn't great. They replied saying that we would have to cancel the insurance and get charged £26. Only had it a day. Took the insurance with Aviva, same company but at least you can ring them.
