Help charge point nightmare for Zoe (Type 2)
Discussion
I put a deposit down on a Zoe, cracking deal and it includes the charger install at your home, or so I thought.
Problem is I already have a type 1 (leaf) podpoint installed and therefore my grant is used up.
Even though Renault own Nissan, guess what they use a type 2 plug!
Does anyone know if I can get an adaptor or better still a type 2 wall socket installed and wired into the podpoint I have? I'll be damned if I'm going to pay a £600 install charge for a whole new unit.
Thanks
PS going to a ZOE from an FN2 Type R! Talk about radical change, will I burst into flames? lol

There's a wire here that looks like it might function as an adapter https://evconnectors.com/Type-2-Electric-Vehicle-C...
At least it might be worth asking them

No thats a type 2 both ends. By the look of it I need a type 2 plug on a tethered lead that will fit a podpoint and replace the same type 1 lead I currently have. Trouble is I can't anywhere that sells them :-(At least it might be worth asking them

Is your Type1/J1772 connector a tethered lead back to the supply equipment?
Yes it is. I think this is the wee beastie I need. Its a replacement lead with a type 2 plug;https://evconnectors.com/Type-2-Electric-Vehicle-C...
After some research it looks like type 1 and type 2 use the same tech, so I should be able to just swap the leads over?

Yep, in theory both conform to IEC62196 so the "Control Pilot" communications between the car's charging system and your supply equipment is common.Type 2 is most widely accepted as the European interface of choice, so switching to that will be no bad thing long-term anyway. Things should hopefully get easier as international standards mature and get more widely adopted, but until then there'll still be a bit of Betamax vs VHS going on!
