Here in NL there are some pretty generous tax breaks for running an all electric car. So much so that many taxi companies are running them now. Two weeks ago a friend from the UK came to visit and we seemed to see quite a few. This weekend we travelled via Schipol and around half the cars at the airport taxi rank were Tesla Model S's. It was quite a sight - I'd have taken photos but it was too dark.

Is this happening elsewhere yet? I want to have a ride in one and see what the drivers think of them - even with a 500km range (is it so good?).

I watched a video on this the other day and they have 167 Teslas there working as taxis. It's a project in which Tesla is participating in as presumably they get a lot of people to experience their cars in this way.

Thanks for that info - so they aren't all owned/run by taxi companies then. Is this the video you saw?

Yeah, that was it, I saw it linked on twitter the other day. Seems it's a collaboration between Schiphol, BIOS Group, the taxi company and Tesla.

I'm surprised that there aren't more taxi companies running fleets of EV's. There is a successful one in Cornwall called C&C who have 10 LEAFs and their own DC rapid charger. They've done 150k miles and reckon it saves them £40k per year in reduced fuel costs.
