For only a bit more cash than the RWD and best of all gets you a bit more range as the two motor setup has a lower geared motor (at the front) for better cruising efficiency. $120,000 ... UK price still not up yet.

I think, after a quick scan on the web, this is now one of. the fastest cars you can buy, especially in real world use, and more importantly for under £100k. The P85 was £77k iirc. So UK price should be around £90k. It can also seat 5 adults and carry luggage. You can have a rather large sticky chocolatey lemon and coffee cake, with sprinkles and eat it.

The sprinkles are the new driver assist features.

I can just see Elon Musk sitting with his engineers,,,
Engineer "so Elon, about this D project, how fast do you want it to go?"
Elon "really fast"
Engineer "as fast as an M5?"
"No faster than than, and anything with M on it, or AMG or RS"
"Ok, about Aston Martin fast then?"
"No faster, I want a 3 second, 0-60"
Engineer "that might be tricky, but we'll try. You do realise if we pull this off it will sell like sticky hot cakes"
Elon... "why do you think I'm building the Giga factory, to make a mass market car? bwa ha ha ha ha ha. Aaaah"

For people with smaller budgets AWD is available on the non performance version and gets you just 376hp split between front and rear motors 50/50. 188hp Sounds like the motor they will stick in the model 3 then. wink

That's a good point about the Model 3 motor - 188 or 221bhp from the 'small' motor and I suppose that the normal 'S' motor would also fit for very high performance models.

I wonder if they will do a four wheel drive model 3?

Been watching some of those you tube vids, 0-40 is seriously quick... count 1 thousand two... and its at 40. thousand three thosoand its 60 4 thousand 75.

So 0-40 looks about 1.2 secs! That's probably faster than most cars can brake!

Still I feel theres no need for all that power. I used to have an E46 330ci only 231 and 6.5 secs. I found ownership frustrating as you hardly ever get to use it, and basically end up paying twice as mich for fuel as all the Nissan Micras that get in your way.

The S85D is the car I've been waiting for, with its autopilot stuff, I'm hoping once legislation catches up, I'll be able to stick a post code in and drop off to sleep on the M40 with some heavy rock kicking in (Rage againt the Machine -Wake Up would be appropriate) telling me I'm 5 minutes from the A34 junction and need to take control.

When you consider that the Model S is less than 2 years old the performance, AWD and Autopilot updates are just mind blowing in terms of comparison with other manufacturers.

You have the quickest real world car in the world with amazing tech that seats 7 looks great for less than £100k - irrespective of propulsion it's incredible.

I am going to order one to replace my P85 as soon as the UK website allows.

The UK website allows! First deliveries are June 2015 if anyone is similarly tempted.

I'm more of a realist and decided I don't need 691bhp. 300odd (well nearly 400) is enough and the nearly 300 mile range of the S85D would be more useful. I currently drive a 1.6 Nissan Juke with 110bhp and 0-60 of 10+ seconds most of the time (mrs is learning to drive) but I still drive faster than 95% of cars on the road wink

When people overtake me it's only because I'm not in the mood to go fast. LOL. I'm only joking, but yo know what I mean... the reality is most of the time you can only go as fast as the car in front of you, or.. if the motorway is clear as much over the speed limit as you dare to do.

I'm pretty sure any of the Telsa's are utterly capable of filling 95% of most people's needs.

I've got my 2004 X-Trail for the bit a Tesla won't do or I wouldn't want it to do... Towing box trailers full of glamping gear to Le Mans, taking garden waste to the dump, or getting me to work on the odd 4 days in 3,000 we get snow in the UK.

Though I am wondering if the AWD tesla could do the snow thing, and can it really really not pull a 750kg trailer? I think that's BS, and they just don't want you being a typical yank and thinking coz it's got a tow hitch, you can drag a 3 berth cabin cruiser down to the local lakes just because it's got 300+hp. The main reason I have a tow hitch is to take my mountain bike on a Thule bike rack without any risk of scratching the body work like the strap on models do (fnarr).

May well be that rear end of the chassis isn't configured to take a tow hitch.

If you want to carry a bike then spec your Model S with the Panoramic Roof, as that comes setup for a roof rack.

Yeah - some of the bridges in France are quite low. At least you'll be able to recored the moment is gets wiped out on your GoPro and make £250 with You've been framed.

Could always get a folding bike and stick it in the frunk.

Personally the other reason for tow hitch is a trailer is for going to dump so I don't get those sticky thorn things stuck in the carpet fabric and bits of stone rolling around under the back seats. And moving stuff betwene hojuses - you can rent a box trailer for 1 week for £100, vs a van for a day.

Here in Norway (5 million people, 1/10th of the worlds electric cars) The Tesla S is all over the place.

The new model has caused issues though, the price increase is so perceived so low over the old model, that the used prices have gone into freefall overnight as owners sign up for the new model.

It looks like the early adopters are footing the bill.

There will be bargains ahead for the old model (If there is a used market in the UK)

Just looking at the prices, they seem to be getting on for half the price here ......... anyone want a left hooker ?

Divide the price by 10 and you're not far off.

Just been on RITA at Alton Towers. 0-62 in 2.5 seconds. Should give you an indication.
