I can't see any topics on this already, but I would have thought there would be by now a section for Tesla on the forum?
So what are the criteria for a manufacturer to achieve the famed notoriety of their own sub-section on Pistonheads?
I see a ton of them driving around, they have by all accounts great performance and handling etc, so I would have thought they would be a good fit - it's not like they are a one-off Hennesey(?) or similar. And the technology they bring to the automotive sector makes for interesting discussion.
(Ok... I realize they don't have any pistons as such).

Hummm yeah I saw that, but by a lot of metrics I think they are surpassing Lotus/Vipers/TVR/MG etc which I thought would have warrented their own section rather than being lumped in with the toyota prius etc. I mean pistonheads does have an increasing global profile, and Teslas I think are now being sold in the UK as well.

I know somebody who is obsessed with them (despite being unable to drive).
He told me that he can see literally no reason why I bought my car when I could have had a Tesla. I have a 2005 Range Rover....

There are about 3 1/2 of them in the UK and they are about as exciting as a fridge.

Did you take the test drive out of interest and what didn't you like about it? And was that the roadster or the S? I thought general consensus (from the press anyway) was generally positive.

I suspect you might just have said the same about the first new fangled jet propulsion engine ; I think Teslas are an extraordinary piece of kit, not least because they are made by an entirely new firm and also because they make all other pure EVs look like amateur hour in comparison.

Is there a forum for them? A bit like Pistonheads?

Actually they are an awesome drivers car and there are about 600 in the UK currently with deliveries continuing thick and fast.

Every review that I can find says it is refined and comfortable but not remotely engaging or enjoyable to drive. Not a drivers car, really; more like an S class.

I don't understand why people have to oversell on EVs. They have enough going for them that you can be honest about their flaws. Punchy torque, no local emissions, cheap to run, etc. No need to pretend that they are much fun (yet - I am sure it'll improve a lot quite quickly).

I'd Buy one, if I won the lottery. But I'd have to have a V8/V12 for the noise.

There's just something about the petrol smell and engine noise.

They aren't very refined or comfortable, but RWD and 0-60 in about 4 seconds is hardly boring, and the response makes them feel faster than the figures suggest.
