Drove the Leaf into the city and thought I would use the charging points in this car park since they have it listed on their site, only to find them all out of action, and non EV cars parked in the bays anyway. Spoke to someone there who just shrugged his shoulders.

Lucky I wasn't desperate for a charge, but I find this half hearted approach for EV charging points quite frustrating. Either provide them and make them available, or don't!

Chargemaster are a joke, every time I go to the chargemaster points at an Asda approximately 25 miles from my home all 4 points are being used by non ev vehicles. Asda say that they can't enforce it and when I spoke to chargemaster and they say there is nothing they can do if the store is not enforcing it. Problem is that they have designed there product to be discrete to the point that it not easily noticed, that and no signage warning of a possible fine for using the space incorrectly. Waste of time and £20 for the card, I have failed to use there service since March. Look for a Moto services and use the Ecotricity one if you are desperate.

This is the response i got from them

I am writing in response to your email to our Contact Centre below.

The charging points in our car parks are all provided by ‘Source London’ who are responsible for the maintenance and running of them. I am afraid that you will need to take up with them the fact that they were not working.

With regard to other vehicles parking in the charging bays. This car park is relatively small, 116 spaces, and the number of electric vehicles we get in is very low so rather than have bays standing empty when the rest of the car park is full we allow any vehicle to park on charging bays.

Try this for size. Went into smithfield-all out of service. Went to ncp aldersgate st-3pin only out of service. Went to London wall. One out of service. One would not accept my source London card. One worked. Phew-cos I had 3miles left.
Wasted 30mins.

Will report them all to source London.

Send an email reporting them to membership@sourcelondon.net

I have just done so for the many that were broken within the square mile the other day! Can't wait to see how the infrastructure handles more Teslas and BMW i8 which will surely overtake the 911 as the City slickers car of choice?
