I have noticed a change in the behaviour of my i3 on hill starts. When I first got it, it would hold the brakes for about 2 seconds after releasing the brake pedal. Enough time to get onto the accelerator (gas) pedal. This is exactly the same as my M3. However, now it holds itself on a hill indefinitely (and before the brakes are even used) and it *feels* like it's the motor not the brakes holding it. I can only think this came about when it had a full software update a few weeks ago. Anybody else noticed this?

Don't think mine does a hill hold at all! and I haven't had any software updates...

Mine's changed too. The drive at my house is on an incline and when I first got the car the hill hold wasn't lasting long enough for the garage door to open so I had to use the handbrake. Since taking my car in for the dealer to investigate a minor niggle they updated the software and the hill hold is now staying on indefinitely which, being lazy, I prefer.

Seems that it is a software change then. I prefer it too, so all good!
