i3 update by dealer
Discussion
The BMW dealership called my wife yesterday to request the car be booked in for a (presumably software) update. She asked what the update was for but got a no information response other than it isn't safety related.
Ours was one of the 1st batch cars back in February and has operated faultlessly. I hope this update doesn't cock it up!
The car is now booked in for end June.
Anyone else had this call, or know what the update is?

It seems a number of mods were made to the car when it was in this week at the dealers request:
Aerial stick replaced (still not told why)
Rubber stops replaced on driver and pax front seats
13A charger replaced (but actually wasn't because they hadn't ordered the part so will drop it off this week) - seems a safety recall, we haven't ever used it.
Software upgrade, only thing the dealer knew was the icons on the nav are sharper!!! From my brief drive since it now appears to be hill holding which is a good thing.
Dealer incompetence never fails to amaze me. My wife picked up the courtesy car, they said do you mind taking the 3 series touring as the 1 series has no fuel. No problem. Get in the 3 series, fuel light is on. Unbelievable.
That aside, the i3 has been completely faultless and still amazes me, it is a great car. I hope the software upgrade doesn't cock that up!

Interesting, with the aerial I've read a couple of reports from people who have taken their car to an auto-car wash and it's fallen off! Maybe it's something to do with that? Does the new one still have the aerial poking out of the shark fin?
Just spent 2 hours cleaning mine. Really happy with it (and about to set off on a 750 mile trip with it next weekend). The only issue really is that I'm having niggles charging overnight but only with the off-peak tariff setting. If I charge immediately it always works but on the delayed timer it's giving an error maybe 1 in 4 times. The car has been in with the dealer for 6 days, the wallbox has been replaced and it's still happening. BMWi seem to have gone quiet in helping me fix it and I've run out of ideas. Bit frustrating

Yep, still fits on top of the shark fin, in fact looks identical to the old one. mids said:

What is the error is it low mains voltage..? And what wall box do you have?Just spent 2 hours cleaning mine. Really happy with it (and about to set off on a 750 mile trip with it next weekend). It's the BMWi wallbox. I don't get any error messages in car (and nothing in the logs). All that happens is it fails to start charging. I get an error shown in the app so I know there's a problem if I check in the night. If I then use the app to turn off the delayed off-peak tariff setting the charging then starts ok remotely. Most nights it's fine but 1 or 2 times a week it'll do this. The other strange thing is, despite the off-peak tariff being set to be 7 hours in duration (plenty enough time for a full charge) the charging often begins well before it should. Again, this doesn't happen every night, it's weird and I can't figure out what it's doing.
BMW have checked my car, updated the software and replaced the wallbox but it hasn't fixed the problem. I don't know what to do next. I guess I'll have to try BMW again but they couldn't replicate the problem at the dealership.
I don't think so because the app isn't controlling the charging, that's done by the car. The app is turned off when the error occurs (I just use it to check the charging status).
I forgot to mention that I've checked voltage, current and power levels and they all seem correct and steady. The only other thing I can think of in the mix is the earth but this was inspected by Schneider when they installed the wallbox and considered to be ok.
bit of a thread hijack, probs should have started my own thread.

To be honest now I think about it the AC has always seemed a bit weak. Last week when it was 24 odd degrees it was just blowing warm air.
Still waiting on a call from the dealer to see what BMW reasonably expect them/me to do. They were happy to loan me one of their i3s for a few days but not for a month+ as they have test drives etc.

Maybe it would be worth comparing notes. I have the same.I forgot to mention that I've checked voltage, current and power levels and they all seem correct and steady. Software update. Schneider cancelled their service call out stating a car issue. The time isn't the simplest of things since it also seems to take consideration of the departure time as well as the start of the Economy 7 tarrif. So it's not easy setting the timer up to test it during wakeful hours !!
Just tested mine with a 9.00pm start time and 7.00am finish for the tarrif, and a 2.00am departure time and seems to have started fine. Maybe early in fact.
Re-set it for a 2.30am -- 7.00am tarrif and a 7.00am departure time tomorrow. In fact base on BST my tarrif runs 1.30am to 8.30am --- but with a 7Kw charger I can afford to set a safety first time frame.
As an aside, my meter shows the current drawn on the 3 phases (only single phase connected) and toggles around 7.1 / 7.1 / 7.3 Kw ... ?
I also find that the online app seems to run on continental time ??

Just read this Chris (was away for a few days, 700 fun miles in the i3). Did your second test go ok? Mine often starts charging way too early which I could understand if there wasn't enough time in the 'cheap-tariff' time zone to get a full charge completed but that's not the case. The power numbers you quote are about the same for me which is what it should be when running at the maximum 32A so that looks ok.
Have you ever suffered from charging errors where it fails to start?
