Does your step father not have home charging ? I mainly sleep in my bed whilst I am charging or if I get a Smart Charge do jobs around the house or sit with my feet up in front of the TV.
Yes and solar panels but he also goes more than 100 miles in one hit quite regularly. It was a crap choice of car for him really, but he still loves it!

I have never seen an 80 mile range on our Mini on a full battery. Even in Winter it would show a minimum of 98 miles which is pessimistic and would increase on a run.
Sorry, I was replying to the 'twitchy range' post of 80 miles.

Like most I wonder what that range would equate to in ten years time. Whereas our 9 year old ICE F56 filled to the brim shows an optimistic 400 mile range.

The range thing is a non issue if you don't need 100 miles a day and can charge at home, 400 miles was the 'range' in our previous Cooper S, but it never did more than 80 a day when I used it to commute, but more like 40 max.

If you can't home or work charge though, it's not a good option.

From reading forums on the i3 battery/motor, I've barely seen a story about the 10 year old ones having degradation. As the Mini shares the 33aH battery, then this can only be a good thing. This maybe to do with them mostly being home charged on 7kW?

Recently bought a 2020 L2 electric Mini to use as a commuter car for a job my wife is starting later this year. Commute will be about 50 miles a day so well within the cars range.

Currently we're both using it as a run about and it's great. Only charging at home on the granny charger and using the octopus tariff. Very cheap to 'fuel', and if you accept it for what it is, a short distance commuter, it seems fine.

That’s an ideal scenario and charging overnight on Octopus IO Go is certainly the way to go.

Quite a few responses here - overall it's been a good 2nd car! Max estimated range I've seen is 105 though, in winter it's been as low as 94 - hence the getting twitchy at 80 comment. I prefer not to see the low battery warning which pops up at about 16 miles range.

But not a problem for us as we only do relatively short local trips - exactly what it was made for.

Actually prefer the look of the current mini to the new one, but will be interesting to see the difference.

If you go on a long run you will find that the range will increase as the average efficiency increases.

I'm sure it does increase, but generally I'm not interested in hypermiling or extending range - just giving my real world experience after 3 years of normal daily use.

The point being that with an estimated range of approx 100 miles, I'm not going to set out on a 50 mile each way journey without any charge facilities at the destination...

Even a destination 40 miles away in the dark/wet knowing I need to get home too and I'll take the other car. Too risky.
