I’m guessing there must be a catch with this car, fair enough it is high mileage but even so it seems a good deal on the face of it, key phrase being on the face of it, don’t think I’ve seen one this cheap from a dealer so god knows how much and under what circumstances they got it, as night turns into day someone will snap this car up, they are either getting a bargain or a whole lot of hassle:

Images 12 and 13 show some pretty significant scratches though I think

Indeed, did think it was a bit odd for it not to be washed and polished for the pictures but it looks like mud so maybe not scratches after all

He’s been trying to sell it for a while, at least since the summer so probably just wants rid now. If you’re interested, go and have a look. Bought mine from an eBay ad but as a private sale and it was absolutely mint when I went to view it.

I think £60k is about the bottom of the 12C market, so about right for a car with quite a few miles on it.

I’m hoping that the used prices of the 540c drop a bit more in the next 2-3 years as by then will have £65,000 to buy outright, ideally can find a decent one for £60,000 as then can use the other £5000 for 1st year ownership costs of warranty, insurance, tax etc. As always time will tell if they do come down far enough by that time.

If I bought an approved used car from McLaren Manchester could I have service/work done at McLaren Hatfield? Or does it always have to be carried out at the location the car was originally purchased?

I guess I could buy from McLaren Manchester then contact McLaren Hatfield to buy warranty once the initial warranty from McLaren Manchester has finished but that way I’m guessing I will end up paying more for it than it would have been extending the initial 12 months warranty from Manchester to 2 years, only asking as am only 50 miles from Hatfield.

Thanks all.

You can generally have a car serviced at any franchised dealership equally, regardless of where you buy the car.

The only possible exception might be if you discover an issue with the car in the first six months and want the selling dealership to cover it, in that case you'd need to start by asking them, they might or might not be ok with you taking the car to the closer dealership. But for any other general servicing and repairs, any franchised dealer is fine to maintain the McWarranty.

I believe the standard warranty renewal prices for Sports Series 5+ years old are £3,392 for 12 months and £6,465 for 24 months. If you do want two years warranty you may find the best thing is to try and negotiate that as part of the initial purchase deal. However once you've bought the car and then come to renew, I don't think it matters which franchised dealer you do it with, although you could always try ringing both and see if either will give a discount.

McLaren tend to run discounts (~15%) on warranty renewals from time to time, perhaps generally in the autumn.

Thank you for confirming, so the best thing to do would attempt to negotiate the 2nd year warranty into the asking price and obviously check that I would be able to take it to Hatfield if and when any work needs to be done within the 24 month period.

I believe it is coverred across the whole main dealer network like Porsche. Manchester issue the Mac warranty but you are free to have warranty work at any main dealer.

If it's the 540c in Volcano you have an interest in, see my thread on stone chips. Then watch the Thorney videos on Volcano paint and the 'various' shades you can end up with. I'm on the fence with that car along with the idea of having a cockpit in full imitation leather - never thought such an option existed! Lovely colour though

Ok thanks, it’s reassuring to know that I would be able to visit Hatfield to get any work done.

I did notice that one at Manchester, I’m not fully sold on it either, the frustrating thing is 540c’s very rarely seem to be available from the McLaren dealerships these days and any 570s through them runs too far out of my budget unfortunately, guess their market research tells them that 540c wouldn’t be in demand.

I bought my GT from Glasgow. I live in Kent so used Ascot for servicing and warranty with no issues at all.

It’s fine to service elsewhere from where you bought. I got mine from Manchester but use Leeds for servicing.

They did warranty work as part of the service and just dealt with it. It wa never an issue.

Interesting - I phoned up on that car October time and was interested but he said it was sold subject to finance going through. The dealer didn't come back to me and I bought another one. I think it looks like a good deal, I paid about the same privately.

Fantastic cars by the way - you won't be disappointed!

Looks to have iris2 and if it's a later car than chassis 800 they were generally better overall than early ones.

Only notable omission I can see is the sports exhaust. The factory item was made of inconel and a £5000 option but transformed the experience.

Looks great value to me.

I’ve had a 2012 12C for three years now. Apart from accumulators needing changing, a soft close door latch that failed and a leak in aircon radiator, I’ve had no problems.

Assuming there isn’t paint corrosion lurking this looks excellent value. Private sale price with the piece of mind of a warranty.

If it doesn’t have upgraded hose clips, you’d best get those done. Soft close door upgrade is also worth it (notwithstanding my experience).

Do the interior and exterior extras impact insurance quotes by much in reality?

Thanks

Only if you go with Zurich who will require a full spec of the car.
